'Joey Barton was telling everyone he was on 80 grand a week as usual' - Henry

The Wolves player has hit back following the QPR midfielder’s recent disparaging remarks about him.

WOLVES MIDFIELDER KARL Henry has called Joey Barton “embarrassing” after the QPR man made a series of derogatory comments about him recently.

Barton derided Henry as a “#sundayleagueplayer” on Twitter and also heavily criticised Henry when the QPR man appeared on the show ‘Goals on Sunday’ at the weekend.

The pair also clashed on numerous occasions while competing against one another during QPR’s 3-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday.

And Henry has finally responded to Barton’s comments, criticising the ex-Newcastle player’s behaviour both on and off the field.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said:

“[During the match] Joey Barton was telling everyone he is on 80-grand a week as usual. That is him. He always does that during the game. Always. He riles a few people up when he says those things and tells everybody how great he is.”

He also dismissed talk of Barton being a changed man, following the equally controversial early stages of his career, which saw the star spend time in prison after he was punished for committing a drunken attack.

“It is just embarrassing really. If that is what he wants to do, he can carry on doing it but that is why a lot of people dislike him. He has tried to reinvent his image but it is probably the same old story.

Barton recently moved to QPR on a free transfer after falling out of favour with Newcastle’s owners.
