Newcastle Director of Football Joe Kinnear tries to sign Newcastle player

Reports suggest the Irishman didn’t realise Shane Ferguson played for the club after seeing the loan star in action with Birmingham.

JOE KINNEAR’S LATEST gaffe is unlikely to endear him to the section of Newcastle fans that are growing increasingly unhappy at his presence at the club.

The Director of Football spotted Northern Irish international Shane Ferguson playing for Birmingham recently and was impressed enough to recommend him to the club — the only problem being that Ferguson already plays for Newcastle and was on loan at the Championship side.

According to reports, Ferguson caught Kinnear’s eye during Birmingham’s Carling Cup tie with Swansea.

A source told The Sunday People: “Ferguson had a particularly good game that night and Joe Kinnear told one of our officials he was interested in signing him.

“At first our guy thought he was joking but then he realised Kinnear did not know Ferguson was already a Newcastle player.”
