JIMMY BARRY-MURPHY will hold talks with Cork county board officials before deciding on his future plans with the Rebels.
Barry-Murphyโs three-year term as Cork manager concluded after yesterdayโs championship exit at the hands of Tipperary.
He admitted that he is unsure as to whether he will be back in charge for the 2015 season.
โIโm not sure. Iโll have to talk to the county board to see what they want to do. Iโll have to reflect on it to be honest and talk to the county board to see what they want to do.โ
Barry-Murphy had no complaints about the outcome of yesterdayโs game.
โI just think on the day we were comprehensively outplayed in many positions on the field. I think when youโre playing a team of Tipperaryโs quality, you canโt hope to win the game in that situation really.
โI felt coming into the game we were in good shape. Weโd trained very, very well. The Munster final victory we felt it would be great for confidence and weโd build on that.
โTen wides in the first half was shocking. It was very, very poor at times. A lot of our players were comprehensively outplayed on the day. Physicality seemed to be a problem for us as well.
โThey were much stronger on the ball, they seemed to harass us as well. When the ball is coming in to your defence as readily as it was, youโre always going to concede and that was the problem.โ
Keep JBM, a class act. I donโt think it was the sidelines fault, how many short puck outs did Tipp have? The lads on the field were blown out of it man for man.
JBM is an example to every manager in the GAA about how a manager should behave. Never complaining about referees, media bans, forces working against them, many could learn a lot from him.
I hope itโs not the last we see of him.
I honestly think it was just one of those days for Cork they got no break of the ball and made sill errors that saped their confidence. Then again theyโre badly missing a half back line what was once their strongest is now their weakest
JBM has brought this group on lots since he took over. 3 years ago if you told me cork would get to an all ireland final and win a Munster championship I would of called that a job well done JBM. He has completely over hauled the squad getting rid of the old guard and replacing with a team of skill and pace. in JBM we trust
Too many players on this team that are either overrated or not inter county level. They got found out today bigtime. As for JBM I think he can only do so much. The lack of talent in the county at the moment is poor for a county like cork. Think its time for a change
I love thisโฆ
Tobi says โAs for JBM I think he can only do so muchโ
Fair enough. The manager (even one as good as JBM) can only work with the players available to him, says Tobi.
But then, Tobi saysโฆ
โThe lack of talent in the county at the moment is poor for a county like cork. Think its time for a changeโ
A change of what? JBM should go manage Westmeath or something?
FFS. Facepalm
Whatโs your point Jeremy??. The talent ainโt coming through. Jimmy barry murphy has what he has simple. Underage success is pathetic. The whole structure needs to be looked at. Have you any bright ideas???. Bring them to the table like a good boy.
Is the man that says he is ashamed to be irish trying to make a point. I doubt you ever played the game little Jeremy. The fact of the matter is there are no structures in place with regards underage teams. For the size of cork we should be doing more to promote the game. As for JBM he has what he has not his fault. Now go read a book there like a good boy. Iโm proud to be irish.
JBMโs been great, but I think itโs time to go. Heโs taken them as far as he can,
If JBM leaves. will the county be more successful with the new boss โ I would have serious doubts. Only 3 all Irelandโs since 1990 and they were achieved by an exceptional squad between โ99 and โ05. Worrying times to be a Cork fan โฆ
Cork just won the munster championship this year and were a puck of a ball away from winning the all ireland last year with a very young team. How in Godโs name is it a worrying time to be a cork supporter?
Philip โ yes they are Munster champions and yes they came close in last yearโs all Ireland. But yesterdayโs display was shambolic and the Munster win was the first since โ06. With Tipp, Clare and Limerick back in the elite itโs going to be hard to retain that title next year. Trophies extremely scarce, so yes 100% it is worrying times โฆ
Very worrying would be if we werenโt able to compete and that obviously isnโt the case. One bad day out doesnโt mean cork hurling is in a bad place. It could be better certainly but itโs way over dramatic to suggest that cork have to be worried about the future. In the last two years cork have beaten pretty much all of the โeliteโ teams โ Clare, kilkenny, Limerick, Waterford, Dublin. I think saying cork should be worried is more wishful thinking from a rival county than an actual fact, am I right?
If a racehorse performed so far below
Form as the Cork team did yesterday it would be undergoing every possible medical test this morning, from blood count to hydration and only God knows what. How could so many Cork sharpshooters score nine wides from very scoreable positions in 35 mins. like they did yesterday?. Surely they could see that are needed to mark man-to-man when the short Puck-out was succeeding so well for Tipp. Tipp, were not playing particularly well in the first half. Anyway congratulations to Tipperary they produced some great hurling in the second half and the best of luck to them in the final.
I express a critical, yet realistic view on the state of Cork hurling and of course Iโm accused of having an anti Cork agenda. I hoped they would win yesterday as was the case last September and would have been the case vs Kilkenny. Sometimes u just canโt win โฆ. Eh Philip
But its not realistic thatโs my point. Read my comment again. That fact that the points you were making were so far off regarding corks future led me to believe that you were thinking with your heart and not your head. I know itโs your opinion etc but there really is no basis for that argument. I do agree that without jbm we wouldnโt be better off though.
Thereโs no basis for my argument .. Why ? Because it differs from yours !! Wow thatโs a mature approach. I wasnโt solely referencing yesterdayโs match so maybe u should read my earlier comment. Whether Jimmy stays or not โ itโs reasonable to assert that the future is uncertain
Why is the future uncertain for the team? Theyโve had a good two years no?
Thereโs no basis because you never backed it up thatโs all
Yes I backed it up โ delusional carry on now Philip. No all Ireland since โ05 and Munster champions after 8 years arenโt exactly great indicators for the future are they?
Just saying theyโve done well last two years and itโs a young team. Thereโs a lot left in Nash, o Neill, Kearney, Walsh, harnady, lehane, cadogen etc and these guys have gotten to an all Ireland final and won a munster championship in the last two years which isnโt too shabby. Before the last two years cork have done poorly no doubt but thankfully now we have hope again
Yes a disappointing display from cork Jbm has to be questioned. To start an injured player who had been of form all year and not even consider. Putting Peter oโbrien on the panel who has been outstanding for the intermediates all year check out his scoring averages
Cork had a bad day yesterday. Everything was off, their handling, striking, hand passing etc plus their workrate. In addition they got their tactics and match ups wrong on sideline and failed to change it. Everyone involved were poor.
That said it doesnt mean that donal og wasnt right. Cork need a proper development plan and centre of excellence more than they need a shiney new stadium. Im surprised to hear that they have the land but choose not to develop it.
The GDO situation is similar to everywhere outside of dublin. Dublin recieves grants which enable the employment of GDOs by each club. Afaik this pays 50% of salaries and club pays other 50%.
Pairc ui caoimh is old and need of refurbishment. A new build is unnecessary imo. A refurb and redoing of entrances, toilets etc plus seats would do. The view from terraces and stand are second to none. It doesnt need to be 50k plus to host munster final. 40 โ 45k will suffice.
Use the rest of the money to build COE.
Some basics disappointed yesterday. Why, when Tipp puckouts all going into Tipp hands, did JBM not order a man-marking formation for all puckouts? Tipp goalie just kept on tapping to the loose man setting up a new attack. A lot of man-on-man battles were going the wrong way and not enough reshuffling was done. Cork made no big effort to upset Tipp tactically. Limerick had simliar issues last year in the semi against Clare and similar inaction. The change did them good.
Fintan, how does this result affect JBMโs canonisation which scheduled for June 2016? Are three dark win-less years enough to nudge the Vatican away from endorsing his piousness? Should Eamonn OโShea be canonised in his stead? #EOS4pope
