Jimenez breaks leg in skiing accident

Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez expects to be off the course for up to five months.

VETERAN SPANISH GOLFER Miguel Angel Jimenez will miss up to five months after breaking his right leg in a skiing accident.

The 48-year-old former Ryder Cup player was skiing in the Sierra Nevada range of Andalucia in southern Spain when he fell and broke his tibia just below the knee.

He was taken to hospital in Malaga where he underwent successful surgery and the world number 51 will now concentrate on making a full recovery.

“It will take me three, four or five months to fully recover and play again at a competitive level,” he said.

“I have been playing well but that’s just the way it goes in life.”

The injury comes after Jimenez became the oldest winner on the European Tour by taking out the Hong Kong Open in November.

He also served as a captain’s assistant to countryman Jose Maria Olazabal, who guided Europe to a spectacular comeback victory over the United States in the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club.
