DUBLIN BOSS JIM Gavin has revealed some information about the conversation that took place when Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley contacted him.
McGinley outlined in a recent interview with The Sunday Independent about how he had spoken to Gavin after Dublinโs All-Ireland semi-final loss to Donegal last month.
The man who will lead Europe into action in Gleneagles for this weekendโs battle with USA, sought out Gavin as he tried to gain an insight into the mind of a manager whose team had been defeated.
Gavin stressed yesterday that it was โa private conversationโ but did speak about what the general subject matter was.
โThe essence of it was dealing with the perception of being favourites going into a game or a competition. Thatโs just an external thing that we couldnโt control and the most important thing was control the internal thing of trying to get a performance.
โThe most important thing was what the players thought and what the management thought and the relationship between them. Thatโs the nature of sport. People have opinions, journalist have opinions and thatโs what they are.
โThatโs why people are passionate about sport, because people have plenty of opinions about the game. Whoโs going to win, whoโs favourites?
โIโd be friendly with him (McGinley). Obviously heโs a good Dublin supporter and with his dad heโs a good Donegal supporter. Heโs a GAA man first and foremost. I wished him all the best.โ
Was Gavin helpful to McGinley?
โMaybe Sunday will tell,โ smiled the Dublin manager.
Jasus is there anyone else he wants to ask advice off of. Gavin, Sir Alexโฆ Next thing we will see him and Twink having a good old chinwag lol
Hehe donโt forget Niall Horan, Louis Walsh, Conor Mc Gregor, Eamon Coghlan..
advice from the man in charge of the one-in-a-row Dubs. Invaluable
Ah yeah sure Gavin knows nothing about winning. Heโs only won 5 of the 6 competitions the Dubs have competed in since he came on board.
The unbeatable Dublin 2014 team lol!
4 of those 5 competitions mean nothing though, lets be honest
Hows limerick doing flash, LOL!!!
Anti Dublin bandwagon rolls on
Why are articles about him popping up now? Would people not focus on the hurling, itโs right around the corner!
Plus, I honestly donโt think heโs the best manager going.. He has a great team and thatโs whatโs getting him by in my opinion. Would they not interview McGuinness or Fitzmaurice who made it to and, in Fitzmauriceโs case, won an All Ireland against the odds? I mean I think Fitzmaurice is one of the best lads going!
He has won 3 Leinsters 2 leagues 2 u 21 all Ireland and one senior all Ireland out of 2 contested not bad Iโd say and a gent in victory and defeat
I know but Iโd say thatโs down to the players, not his managerial skillsโฆ
Pretty sure I said that above
so by the same logic neither Alex fergessen or Brian Cody are great managers as they too had great players?
Ah the jealous boggers, you gotta love it! I can smell them everywhere!
โHeโs a GAA man first and foremostโ, what does that mean?
If you have to ask then youโll never understand
I didnโt realise Taoism was big in Croke Park, but if you canโt answer thatโs fine.
Mc Ginley competes in an individual sport, advice from the manager of a team sport would be pretty useful to him. I think Gavin is well qualified to give a little advice.
Jim Gavin could give advice on losing with a winning hand maybe? What would Jim McGuinness do with Dublinโs resources?
park the bus?
Jimmys losing matches!
So, McGinley was basically asking Gavin what he did so as to know what not to do with the Ryder Cup team? In fairness, thatโs actually useful information.
