Jets hoping Tebow is 'Wicked' good for real show
Tebowmania hit the Big Apple even before the ink was dry on the trade last week that brought him to New York as a backup to shaky incumbent Mark Sanchez.
TIM TEBOW HAS has made it to Broadway, even if the New York Jets expect him to be a supporting player this season.
The quarterback attended the musical “Wicked,” but the real show comes today: his introductory news conference with the Jets.
Tebowmania hit the Big Apple even before the ink was dry on the trade last week that brought him to New York as a backup to shaky incumbent Mark Sanchez. Of course, it took several hours for the deal to be consummated because of a clause in the contract as tricky as driving through midtown Manhattan in rush hour.
The famed Carnegie Deli in Manhattan is naming a sandwich after Tebow, on white bread, naturally. He’s in demand for the talk shows, and maybe David Letterman can arrange for Tebow and Sanchez to toss a ball to each other outside the studio on 53rd Street.
Far more certain is the media horde that will descend on the Jets’ facility in Florham Park, NJ, not only on Monday but for the usually tame offseason workouts and minicamp.
Eli? Linsanity? The Rangers’ run for a Stanley Cup?
Trivial. It’s going to be all Tebow all the time.
“Playing for an organization that has such passionate fans and has so many people behind them, supporting them is very exciting,” Tebow said. “It means a lot to me.”
It means a lot to the franchise, which once enjoyed hearing its starting QB referred to as the “Sanchize.” Yes, Sanchez has gotten the Jets to two AFC title games, but last year’s flameout, his issues with wide receiver Santonio Holmes and a fractured locker room erased the glow. Sanchez received a three-year, $40.5 million contract extension two weeks ago, but, well, that’s old news, too.
When the NFL unveils its new, Nike-produced uniforms in early April in Manhattan, want to bet the Jets’ jersey will have No 15 on it?
“He transcends cities and teams,” said Randy Echevarria, president of the Jacksonville Beach Gator Club back in the original Tebow country. “It just doesn’t matter to Tebow fans.”
Those fans are legion. Former NFL MVP Rich Gannon tells a story about broadcasting a Broncos-Packers game in early October when Kyle Orton still was Denver’s starter. As the Broncos were getting routed, coach John Fox heard some chants from the Lambeau Field stands: “T-E-B-OW, T-E-B-O-W.” Fox ignored them.
A bit later the chants got louder and more frequent. ”John said he couldn’t believe that many Broncos fans had traveled to the game in Green Bay,” Gannon recalled. “Then he turned around and they were all Packers fans chanting for Tebow.”
It wouldn’t be shocking if packs of Jets fans, already decked out in green Tebow garb, make the trek to the team’s complex an hour’s drive from New York City on Monday to repeat those chants. Perhaps chewing on the Tebow sandwich.
“There will be fair weather fans who are actually Tebow fans and will be trading in their Broncos jerseys for Tebow’s No. 15 Jets jerseys,” said longtime Jets fans Eric Haug, whose disenchantment is obvious. “What team calls a press conference for a backup quarterback? When does that ever happen?”
Funny thing is the journal (this is off topic) will allow you to say o Connor is a disgrace but go earlier on today and you said that about travellers it would be deleted the comment.
Anyway apart from appalling ethics by the journal. The idea of this guy being sent to olympics is total joke. Wonder what will happen to sample B this time
In reply to James: so you’re saying that differentiating between criticism of a single man on the basis of factual evidence and a minority group of individuals is appalling ethics from the Journal?
James, it saddens me that there are people like you out there who can’t see the distinction between slating a single person due to his actions and slating an entire group of people due to the actions of some..
Only in Ireland would it happen that one cheater is replaced with another cheater. Cian O’Connor had his chance in 2004 and brought shame upon the nation, not to mention the debacle which ensued during which the horse’s urine samples were stolen from a laboratory in the middle of the night in an attempt to cover up the whole sorry episode.
Someone else should have gotten a chance to compete rather than a proven cheater.
Absolutely scandalous. If it was another country we’d all be laughing about how idiotic they are replacing a suspected cheater with a proven cheater. Unbelievable.
Brian, O’Connor was part of a farce back in 2004, and proven guilty. And may I remind you it’s only slander if it isn’t true. You obviously have no pride nor respect for our country of you’re going cheer on that proven cheater.
Tourism irelands new motto should be
“come to ireland, you ll get away with anything ”
This is an utter disgrace, this guy is representing our country. And hes a known cheat.
Why are all the cheats be it tax, sport, whatever in this country still going about unpunished.
I suggest that more readers go back and read the explanation of hypersensitivity in horses and also the statement by Denis Lynch before some people may be sued for slander or liable making false accusations towards Mr Lynch and also read into the sport more before posting some comments. I will however cheer on Cian and wish him the best in the Olympics along with the Irish team.
If you understand the equestrian show jumping industry and how tests and ingredients in some things work what can be classed as cheating is a very fine line to something as simple as a wrong horse treat or food and as for Denis his horse had naturally occurring hypersensitivity which is not cheating and took place due to the horse taking part whilst being slightly injured and he was free to take part in other events please read the statements thank you

What a joke. He is a disgrace to Ireland.
Totally agree. The man has no shame.
Funny thing is the journal (this is off topic) will allow you to say o Connor is a disgrace but go earlier on today and you said that about travellers it would be deleted the comment.

Well said John, he has a neck like a jockeys Boll@@ks. I for one will not be cheering on cheats. It’s a pure farce.
This will really send out the message that Ireland doesn’t tolerate drug cheats in equestrianism. Not
Only in Ireland would it happen that one cheater is replaced with another cheater. Wow ANOTHER comment deleted. I’m done with this site. Nazi Germany had more freedom and less censorship.
Really wish the journal would instead put effort into moderating the Facebook page where is is appalling personal attacks.
wonder who his horse is ?? lance Armstrong…too soon?
he is ok but keep that horse of the coke . heard the horse was at Swedish house mafia concert
Absolutely scandalous. If it was another country we’d all be laughing about how idiotic they are replacing a suspected cheater with a proven cheater. Unbelievable.
Who are the idiots running this sport ?
Whoever decided this should resign. A total disgrace for Ireland.
Disgraceful……just goes to show what money can get u…..
What a shower of DOPES
The irony, its burns!

This is hilarious. One banned to avoid controversy and they replace him with a rider whose horse was disqualified last time.
He brings new meaning to the HIGH jump!
Really, is this a joke? You are replacing someone who has not been tested positive with O’Connor… really? What a sham.
This is a joke, right?
Tourism irelands new motto should be

Oh boy, just checking my diary, nope, not April 1st so that must mean this is a … true…. story…. epp
since Waterford crystal cannot sponser ,maybe TNT will jump in at the deep end?
Is he related to Tony O Reilly?
oh the irony

Pat Hickey is involved so enough said.
Can’t see how this decision could possibly go rong.
Oops.
