5 things Arsenal can learn from their new employee Jerry Flannery

The Munster hooker has taken up a role within the London club’s strength and conditioning team.

Updated 15.05

FORMER MUNSTER AND Ireland hooker Jerry Flannery has landed a role with Arsenal, it has emerged today.

According to the Irish Independent’s Ruaidhri O’Connor, Flannery will take up a work placement position on the strength and conditioning staff at the Emirates Stadium under Des Ryan and Dr. Gary O’Driscoll.

A placement, though?

That can’t be right. Fla’ is more than just your average holder of a masters in sports performance, he’s a bona fide LEDGE-END.

Here’s just a taster of what the Gunners could learn from their new addition.

Speak your mind

You have to be willing to do ANYTHING for the team

Especially letting a physio strap reins on you so as they can sled around the training ground.

Sometimes you have to stick the boot in

Bould, Adams, Keown, Vieira or Petit didn’t need reminding. But Arsenal are never gonna survive unless they get a little crazy.

On the sidelines, remember to keep warm in style

Arsene Wenger put his lagging jacket on in 2010. Nobody has seen him without it since.

This, on the other more stylish hand, is how Fla rolls.

Play to the end

If you want top win more than just fourth place, you don’t leave anything on the field. You drain yourself until you get taken off.

You definitely don’t throw your jerseys to the crowd with extra time on the way.

Met him in Dubai during the last RWC. An absolute gentleman and gave time to all the people who wanted to talk to him.

Fair play to Jerry, Arsenal will certainly do well with him, in recent times they have become far too soft, ever since Patrick Vieira left they haven’t been the same.

Met him after a game in Thomond Park last year. Pure gent. I’m not a fan of soccer but Arsenal have one hell of a man coming their way. A case of there’s nothing to it but to do it and Fla’ wont take any crap from anyone. Best of luck to him.

Good to see a soccer club having the sense to hire a man who has played a much tougher, much more complex and much more physically demand sporting game at the highest level. Arsenal and Arsene need Jerry Flannery. Rugby players, like soccer players, cannot go on playing forever but former rugby players with the qualifications and experience of Jerry Flannery can go on to have significant careers after their playing days are over.
