JASON RYAN WAS tonight ratified as the new Kildare senior football manager.
Ryan’s appointment as the Lilywhites boss was rubber stamped at a meeting of the Kildare county board.
The meeting had been scheduled for last Tuesday night but was deferred to tonight instead.
Ryan had been the front runner for the position and Kildare GAA confirmed earlier today that he was to be put forward for ratification.
Ryan will succeed Kieran McGeeney, whose six-year tenure controversially ended last month after he lost a ballot by county delegates by a single vote.
Waterford native Ryan will be highly familiar with the Kildare players as he was coach alongside McGeeney for the 2013 campaign.
Prior to that Ryan had established himself through his role as Wexford senior football manager, a position he filled for five seasons between 2008 and 2012.
They reached two Leinster football finals during that time frame but lost out to Dublin on both occasions in 2008 and 2011 in Croke Park.
Kildare have been drawn in the quarter-finals of next year’s Leinster senior football championship where they will meet the winners of Westmeath and Louth who clash in the opening round.

Good appointment for Kildare. A new manager can be a shot in the arm for a team and Ryan is a fine manager.
Should do a good job. Roll on next year!
Looking forward to this…Ryan did some great things at Wexford, with spending some time in the backroom he’s not coming in cold
A Waterford City man in charge of the Lilywhites. & a De La Salle man no less. The future is bright for Kildare.
You can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
He’s a good manager is ryan. No disrespect to wexford but he’ll have a better quality of player in kildare
I’d like to believe that’s true, and for 3/4 of the pitch it might be but Wexford have had some class forwards in recent years – precisely the area Kildare have struggled. And now James Kavanagh is gone and Seanie is following him.
If you could combine Kildare & Wexford you’d have a pretty good team! I’d call it Wexkil
Wexdare…Kilford
Onwards and upwards
Good luck to the new manager, he’ll need it with that bunch of under achievers.
In 6 years under McGeeneys, they only won a division 2 league title, with probably the best Kildare team in decades.
Remember Doyle can’t go on forever.
Good luck to the new manager
He’ll need it
Best Kildare team in decades? The one that won two leinsters in three years might disagree
A Waterford man managing Kildare and a Kildare man managing Waterford. Some irony there somewhere.
As a Dub I agree with most comments above, a good manager who done quite well with Wexford
Dub meself paulie. Few times he was unlucky against us
We were blessed against Wexford in 2010. I’m more fearful of Kildare next year than I was two months ago. Decision making cost Kildare big time this year. If they get good forwards they could be good.
Know little about GAA but I know Jason is a really nice guy and wish him all the best.
I don’t see this as a good appointment. Kildare had a bad year last year and someone who was in there coaching is promoted to manager. It rarely works out for teams who promote from within the current set up, especially when that team has had a bad year. A clean break and someone with fresh ideas would have been better I think.
‘Ratified’ is such an overtly GAA word.
Ratified.
Great appointment. Very happy indeed.
God himself couldn’t manage this kildare side to all ireland success!
Well, why bother playing so?
They will still be gick & Dublin will destroy them
Great manager
How much is he getting?
Whatever petrol costs are involved in travelling from Wexford to Kildare plus around 50k I’d say. Payment for managers continues to be the big hush hush thing in the GAA. I’d like to see a report done on it as the figures thrown around that some club and inter county managers are supposed to be earning is crazy.
Ud wanna see what Liam sheedy is potentially been offered to become the new manager of limerick! JP’s “hard earned” cash
Jason Ryan is a Waterford man.
Sure thats a dogs name
That’s his career down the tube
A good manager who did a good job with Wexford. He has the Leinster champions at minor and under 21 coming through too so hopefully we can kick on and at least challenge the dubs in Leinster next year.
