FOR A LONG time, the most athletic GAA players have been targeted by AFL clubs and given a chance to play Aussie rules professionally. Having seen relative success with the initiative, the AFL are now looking to make it in America.
Jason Holmes is a former college basketball player from Morehead State who is now on the books at Tommy Walsh’s old club St Kilda. Holmes had never heard of the sport when in college but one Youtube clip later he was hooked and now he is getting closer and closer to making his professional debut.

Famously, when ESPN first started, one of the only sports that they had the rights to was the AFL. It didn’t catch on then but maybe if Holmes becomes the next Jim Stynes, it could ignite a cult following.
Just think of it, maybe in five years time we will see Jason Holmes beating the head off of some poor Irish player in the International Rules Series.
