England's Jack Wilshere to miss Ireland's Wembley showdown

Obviously scared of Greeney.

JACK WILSHERE IS to undergo minor surgery, ruling him out of England’s fixtures with Brazil and Ireland.

The Arsenal midfielder made a recovery from a long-term right-ankle problem this season, but missed six games in March after trouble with his left ankle. The club have been monitoring Wilshere’s fitness since then, and the surgery to his right ankle has now been scheduled by the club.

And while he will require a few weeks of rehab, the 21-year-old is expected to be ready for the start of pre-season training.

“Jack will have small, mild surgery,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told the club’s official website. “It is a very small, small, small one. It is to remove a small pin. It will not be a problem.

“He will need very minor surgery, but we manage that as far as we can until the end of the season. At the moment, we use him only in games when I feel he is really needed.

“He won’t be available for England in the forthcoming friendlies, but he will be back for pre-season. Of course he is disappointed to miss the England game in Brazil, but he will go next year (to the World Cup finals).”

Wilshere has appeared 23 times for Arsenal in the Premier League this season, aiding the team with three assists.

Giovanni Trapattoni named his squad for the game with Wembley clash as well as other end-of-season games yesterday.
