England still after Ireland winger Grealish, says U21 boss Southgate

Southgate has revealed they have been in contact with the highly-rated teenager’s family.

ENGLAND U21 MANAGER Gareth Southgate remains hopeful that Jack Grealish will switch international alliegance.

Birmingham-born Grealish, who has broken into Aston Villa’s first team this season, currently represents Ireland and will line out with Noel King’s U21 squad once again this week in a friendly against Norway.

According to Ireland senior boss Martin O’Neill, the 19-year-old wants time to decide which country he would like to commit his long-term future to and Southgate has revealed that they are still keeping tabs on the highly-talented youngster.

“Jack is somebody we have spoken to over the years, him and his family,” The Birmingham Mail report Southgate as saying. “He has been in our younger development teams. The family and Jack are aware of our interest.

“Up to this point they have preferred to remain with Ireland. These things are quite fluid at younger ages, it happened with Michael Keane and his brother and Jonathan Bond came from Wales.

You are allowed to switch once you are a young player and Jack is someone we are monitoring and we’ll keep our eye on that situation.

“We have been monitoring him but in the end it’s up to the player. He’s going to make his decision on where he wants to go. ”

Its his choice and whatever decision he makes it should be respected. Would be very disappointing though, looks a real prospect.

Fun fact: Gareth Southgate is a tremendous pan pipe player which earned him the nickname “peter pan pipes” from juninho

OK. I can lick my nose and Gareth southgate can’t, I asked him and he tried but failed. Then he played the pan pipes and asked me could I do it, but I couldnt. So we are all even in talents so far.

He was born and bread in England and should play for England.
Why should he play for a nation full of barstoolers anyway, leave the kid alone, its embarrassing, #pathetic

Yeah play for England – exponents of the beautiful game. Always exceeding expectations & rising to the challenge at major championships. With their midfielders spread out nicely across the centre of the park. Neither having a clue what the other is doing – nice wind up Michael. Surprised at the lack of vitriol that greeted it. Grealish looks the business – sure look at least if he switches, we can have a good moan about it and mock his ridiculous One Direction style haircut ( Harry still my no 1)

Can barely get a game with villa. This is embarrassing-if he wants to go play for England then let him. He’ll rack up a few U21 caps with them and then find himself playing in a lower championship team. If he was any good he’d be a first choice starter Villa-themselves perennial strugglers.
