Hammered: Is Shane Long heading to Upton Park?

Reports suggest that Sam Allardyce is ready to meet Reading’s £8m valuation for the striker.

IRISH INTERNATIONAL SHANE LONG could be heading for the bright lights of London town after West Ham United lodged an £8million bid to take the Reading striker to Upton Park, the Guardian reports.

The 24-year-old hit 21 league goals last season as Reading made a late charge for promotion before losing out to Swansea in the Championship play-off final.

But, despite being linked with a summer move to a number of top-flight clubs, it seems that Long could end up staying in English football’s second flight after all.

Earlier this month, it was reported that West Brom were interested in securing Long’s services, though the Hawthorns outfit cooled their interest after Reading slapped an £8m price tag on Long’s head.

But Sam Allardyce appears willing to splash out to capture Long, with an offer reported to value the striker at an initial £5m, with the remaining £3m to follow in add-ons.
