Nixon Tapes?

Ricky Nixon touches down but Sigerson organisers in the dark over Aussie scout's plans

Officials say that the controversial Aussie super-scout has not notified them of his intention to attend next weekend’s event.

EMBATTLED AUSSIE RULES agent Ricky Nixon has reportedly arrived in Ireland as he attempts to flee the media scrutiny surrounding his controversial relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

But organisers of Gaelic football’s high-profile university tournament say they don’t know if the well-known ‘super-scout’ will attend the Sigerson Cup next week.

Nixon has been forced to defend himself against allegations over the past week after the teenager at the centre of the St Kilda nude photo scandal told journalists that she had an “affair” with him.

The 47-year-old has rejected those accusations on a number of occasions, asserting that “any suggestion that I have had a sexual relationship with this girl, by anyone, is a blatant lie.”

Monday’s Sydney Morning Herald reported that Nixon informed authorities that he was flying to Ireland to pursue business interests. It was believed that these ‘interests’ may relate to the Sigerson weekend which will be hosted by UCD from 3 – 5 March.

In the past, Nixon has attended the showcase event in attempt to recruit some of the country’s top university footballers for his Flying Start agency. If Nixon is planning on a trip to Belfield next week, however, he is yet to inform the Higher Education GAA who organise the Sigerson Cup.

Vicky Ivers, the committee’s serving officer, told TheScore.ie that Nixon “hasn’t been in touch with us” in relation to the matter. ”If they are planning to attend, they have organised it independently of our office.”

However, Ivers did note that Nixon has developed a number of points of contact within the GAA over the course of his visits to Ireland and, as such, it is difficult to determine who he might call upon for help in this matter.

School trips

Today’s Irish Daily Mirror quotes a “top Australian-based GAA source” who has indicated that Nixon also plans to visit three Dublin secondary schools as part of his scouting trip.

The agents’ board of the AFL Players Association have commenced their inquiry into the allegations against Nixon, with the agent’s professional future within the game heavily dependent upon their findings. The Sydney Morning Herald reported this morning that Nixon will answer the board’s questions via e-mail for the duration of his stay in Ireland.
