In pictures: Ireland's Paralympians attend a government reception
Gold medal winners Jason Smyth and Michael McKillop were among those in attendance today.

Well done to each and everyone of them. Theyโve brought huge honour and pride through their achievements. Iโll hold my counsel on Indaโs presence in those picturesโฆ
You will notice Tony that your comments werenโt sought and wouldnโt add to the wonderful occasion at which the Irish Taoiseach formally greeted and recognised the heroic participation by our Paralympians in representing the Nation over the last few weeks.
Exactly Mickโฆthe paralympians. They do not need some attention grabbing politician shoving his face into a picture when he has already stated that heโll โsee where future funding for sports goesโ..ie funding will be reduced. It should be about the athletes, their families and prehaps representatives of the paralympian movement and not a politician of any hue simply jumping on a bandwagon.
Well now Mick your own comments were not actually sought either
The paralympians definitely deserve the recognition, but do they really deserve having to pose in photos with the politicians who are simply jumping on the bandwagon?
Unnecessary trolling! If there wasnโt an official reception youโd say itโs a disgrace that their efforts werenโt recognised by the leader of the country
They are the leaders of the country. You need to park political opinion for occasions like this.
So it seems you canโt comment on a photo without being accused of Trolling. I never said they didnโt deserve the reception (quite the opposite actually), I just think the photo call is cringe-worthy, not for the athletes, for the politicians!
Ah come on. Leave politics out of it. Just for once.
The two boys should really get their own celebrations instead of stealing bolts and moโs! They deserve their own.
Tony
I think you are beginning to sound rather foolish.
Imagine an invitation from the Taoiseach to the athletes on our behalf where he doesnโt turn up?
Would that be the type of ceremony you proposed today or even better lets tell the President to be absent in two weeks. Grow up. The State celebrated today with National heroes on our behalf and the State was represented by the Taoiseach.
Build a bridge Tony.!
Paralympics != Olympics
Mickโฆ.how about if youโre beloved Enda sponsored an event but stayed the f**k away from it. He could take all the kudos for organising it but keep sports politically neutralโฆdo you not think that politics and political photo calls have no place in sport? A government that cuts special needs assistants on one hand and are hypocritical enough to pull this kind of a publicity stunt are irreprehensibleโฆ
Perhaps the paralympians are happy for the elected Representatives of our Nation to honor them. If not then they had the choice of not attending. Just like that perhaps if there was a moan of the year gold medal and you won it (which u would) , you might like people to salute your effortsโฆโฆ which are great and plentiful because u never stop moaning.
Who are you talkinโ to!
Iโm very happy that these heros are being honoured.
If people are unhappy that the โmenโ cutting their support funding feel the need to hug them for a photo op, then thatโs fair enough.
(example: last week was international mental health week, Ireland cut 55 million from MH funding)
Had the pleasure of meeting Jason and road racer Mark Rohan yday evening. Both of whom are a credit to Ireland and their families. Lovely lads and inspirational figures to those around them.
