THE IRELAND WOMEN’S football team’s hope of qualifying for next year’s European Championships in Sweden ended tonight at Turner’s Cross, following a 1-0 loss against Scotland.
Sue Ronan’s side experienced a difficult start to the game, which was compounded by a Rachel Corsie goal on 24 minutes, as she reacted quickest to a loose ball, after Emma Byrne could only parry a corner into her path.
Scotland had a number of other first-half chances to double their advantage, before the Irish began to control the game and finished the stronger of the two sides.
However, the home side’s inability to breach the Scotland rearguard ensured their hopes of qualifying via the playoffs by finishing second in Group 4 came to an end.
