THE IRFU HAVE confirmed that they will not appeal Brian O’Driscoll’s three-week suspension.
Ireland centre O’Driscoll was sin-binned for stamping on Italy’s Simone Favaro during the Six Nations defeat to Italy in Rome on March 16.
The 34-year-old was informed of the verdict after the disciplinary committee called the incident “a spontaneous act born out of frustration” but downsized the ban from the entry level of five weeks to three due to O’Driscoll’s “exemplary character”.
He will now miss Leinster’s meeting with Ulster at the RDS on Friday as well as the Amlin Challenge Cup clash against Wasps on April 5 after the IRFU said they won’t be contesting the decision.
The IRFU have confirmed that no appeal will be lodged with the Six Nations regarding the suspension of Brian O’Driscoll,” a brief statement read.

Rugby players = tough honest players, who have respect for the rules of the game and also total respect for the ref. and who don’t dive and fall down with the slightest touch.
Guess the offside rule if the limit of your brains ability. Please head off and watch boxing, possibly the most crooked sport in the world, or a bit of football where gay players are marginalised and cheating is encouraged.

I see the journal moved the article to a more prominent position when they saw the ould war between oval and round starting. Keep the advertisers happy with more hits. Kind of like rugby really. Then a racism argument thrown in and ye must be delighted. Treble the comments!
I couldn’t be bothered waiting for your comment. I made a comment about how it was on the Score and then when all the comments started it appeared on the Journal. If I was working there I would have done the same thing as I think that the more comments on a story the more hits it gets and so on. This in turn must help revenues from advertisers. I don’t think the people working at the website do it for free. I was not having a go and whenever the weed stories, religion, football/rugby, munster/leinster come up then the Journal should shove it onto the front page as it is a bloody business and a good one at that. I’m afraid I can’t grow up any more. Good luck.
Exactly my point- that just confirms that there is something wrong with football. Nobody on the irish football team should be worth more than o driscoll, especially mc shane who is rubbish. None of them have the same commitment or are willing to put their bodies on the line in the way that EVERY member of the rugby team does weekly. The only thing mc Shane has ever committed to the team is own goals and bad tackles. o driscoll is probably better than football than mc shane is. If u don’t like rugby don’t comment on this article. End of.
Whereas football is just a game for shaved men who seem to think that jumping on the ground when they don’t want to be tackled and rolling around in “agony” is perfectly acceptable. I can see why you like it.
How long did it take them to decide that the cowardly act of stamping on a fellow player warrants such a ban (and more) and that appealing would have been both ridiculous and utterly laughable?
The fact they waited until the next day to confirm they wouldn’t appeal shows they considered it. Imagine considering appealing a 3 week ban for the cowardly act of stamping on a man’s chest as he lay on the ground? How many players were banned in this season’s 6 Nations for stamping on opponents?
Of course they considered it, it’s their job. They had 2 options: either to appeal or accept the decision. They read the judgment & then rightly decided not to appeal. That decision was common knowledge this morning, the judgment came out late yesterday afternoon.
I fail to see how they can be criticised for taking the correct decision in an efficient manner
The man was on the wrong side of the ruck deliberately interfering with play. in the 80?s it would not have been a penalty but these days make t be a yellow card. You are either a new rugby observer or just plain ignorant. Cowardly is a word I would associate with some sportsmen (including some GAA men) but to try and tag o?Driscoll with that. …….. you sir are a Muppet
He didnt try clear a ruck Amy he clearly used a stamping motion on his chest! The 2 are totally different! O Driscoll is not a dirty player it was just a stupid act
For the record . . I love football too, I remember an incident about 6 months ago where a supporter threw what appeared to be a banana at Danny Wellbeck! Great game, don’t know about the supporters!
Colm Meade, if its so fantastic why didn’t the Aviva sell out last tue night? Try and come up with an answer that doesn’t involve blaming the bond holders.

I wonder if the UK police had a look at ur Twitter page would they suggest it were shut down? I wonder if your mother would be so proud to know what a little s★★t she reared if she read any of ur tweets.
Football players are payed there massive salaries fairly because it is them that is making huge sums of money for there clubs through t.v rights and paying tickets. Put it this way .. Paul mcshane is worth more than Brian o d..
McShane makes a very good living as a footballer. Do you have any idea how many very good footballers don’t make it? The answer is loads. McShane is a good player, not fantastic or world class but only a handful in each position are, so please don’t criticise a lad that is good at what he does, thanks.

How long did it take them to decide that the cowardly act of stamping on a fellow player warrants such a ban (and more) and that appealing would have been both ridiculous and utterly laughable?
The judgment only came out yesterday, they read it and confirmed they wouldn’t appeal.
So not that long
Exactly
The fact they waited until the next day to confirm they wouldn’t appeal shows they considered it. Imagine considering appealing a 3 week ban for the cowardly act of stamping on a man’s chest as he lay on the ground? How many players were banned in this season’s 6 Nations for stamping on opponents?

How can they justify reducing the ban from 5 weeks to 3 weeks? I see no relevance to his previous discipline record.
The man is an inspirational athlete, but it devalues rugby when the authorities go easy on its stars.
