Ireland's T20 showdown with the West Indies to be shown live tonight

Darren Sammy insists his side did not take the Irish challenge lightly, but is aware that they must improve.

IRELAND’S T20 FIXTURE with West Indies will be live streamed tonight via the ICC Development Programme, it has been confirmed.

In addition, Sunday’s One-Day International against the same opposition will also be shown amid renewed interest in the team, following their spectacular win on Wednesday.

The stream is set to go out on the Cricket Ireland Website via their YouTube channel.

Cricket Ireland Chief Executive Warren Deutrom commented: “This is fantastic news for cricket fans everywhere with a thrilling two matches coming up in Jamaica. We’re extremely grateful for the support of the ICC Development Programme who have made this initiative possible, and also to the West Indies Cricket Board for facilitating the coverage there in Sabina Park.

“We had record numbers of nearly 300,000 people via YouTube watch the Pakistan series from Dublin in May and I’ve no doubt there will be great interest again tonight on a what is a very big weekend for Irish sport.”

Ireland secured a six-wicket victory when the two sides met at Sabina Park, Jamaica on Wednesday.

After winning the toss in Wednesday’s game, the hosts could only post a paltry score of 116-8, with Chris Gayle’s 18 representing the most substantial individual contribution.

Led by the superb Ed Joyce, Ireland lived up to their billing as giant-killers by overhauling their opponents’ total with five balls to spare, thereby recording their first win over West Indies in the T20 format.

Ireland made an inauspicious start to their chase with William Porterfield and Paul Stirling departing early, but Joyce recovered the situation with 40 not out from 49 deliveries to claim the man-of-the-match award, while Andrew Poynter’s knock of 32 also aided the cause.

It was a less than ideal performance from a West Indies side beginning preparations for the defence of the ICC World Twenty20 crown they won in 2012, with this year’s tournament set to begin in Bangladesh next month.

Captain Darren Sammy insists his side did not take the Irish challenge lightly, but is aware the Windies must improve. “We never took them for granted. We weren’t complacent,” he said. “We have to come back hard at them and put in a performance that shows we are worthy of being the world champions.

“We will have a full training session and look to get everything right on Friday.”

After their remaining matches against Ireland, West Indies will continue their build-up to the ICC World Twenty20 with a three-match one-day International series against England, before facing the same opponents in three T20 fixtures.
