IRELAND’S CONOR NILAND has dug deep to progress to the third round of the qualifiers for Wimbledon.

Niland came from a set down to beat Australia’s Greg Jones earlier today after losing the opener 6-4.

The Irish number one claimed the second set on a tie-break before taking control in the final decisive set for a 4-6 7-5 6-2 victory.

Niland got his qualification campaign off to a good start with a thrilling third-set victory over Josselin Ouanna in their first round match in Roehampton yesterday morning.

The Limerick-based player now faces Croatia’s Nikola Mektic in the third round on Thursday.

Meanwhile Irish-based player Vitalia Diatchenko, who is coached by Irish Davis Cup  captain Garry Cahill, came through her first round of qualifying on a 6-1, 6-4 scoreline against Julia Glushko of Israel.  She next faces the seventh seed Italian, Maria Elena Camerin.
