Ireland's James McGee claims singles and doubles titles in Bahrain

The Dubliner did not drop a single set on his way to a win in the singles final against Jordi Samper-Montana of Spain.

IRELAND’S JAMES McGEE was a dual winner at the First Bahrain International Tennis Federation (ITF) Futures Event at the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) in Juffair, winning both the singles and doubles titles.

In the singles match, McGee beat Jordi Samper-Montana of Spain 6-4 6-4, before he teamed up with compatriot Sam Barry to beat Briton Matthew Short and Jeremy Jahn of Germany in the doubles event.

The 24-year-old McGee, from Dublin, had gone into the tournament as the favourite and did not disappoint.

Having won the opening set, he broke his opening in the third game of the second and closed out the match from the there, appearing far more composed than he had done in the semi-final against Jules Marie.

McGee did not drop a single set throughout the tournament, which contained a total prize fund of $20,000 and also featured ladies singles and doubles competitions.
