A troubled Ireland U21 international was the last United player shown the exit door by Fergie

The 19-year-old’s contract was ‘terminated by mutual consent’ after a breach of club discipline.

IRISH LEFT-BACK Sean McGinty has the unfortunate distinction of being the last player booted out the Old Trafford exit door by departing boss Alex Ferguson.

The defender’s contract was ‘terminated by mutual consent’ after a breach of club discipline saw him sent back from his Tranmere loan spell.

The Maidstone-born player reportedly failed to show up for training, and was promptly disciplined – the second time a loan spell of his has ended prematurely, after he was previously sent back by Oxford.

McGinty, who had one year left on his United contract, had previously provoked the ire of Fergie, when he was convicted of drink driving last year, having been found driving the wrong way on a one-way street at 4.30am after leaving a nightclub.

And even with the United boss preparing for his imminent departure, he was not willing to allow sentiment get in the way of the tough decision he felt needed to be made.

The 19-year-old left-back had been part of the Red Devils’ 2011 FA Youth Cup-winning team, and also represented Ireland at underage level, having been bought by the club as a 16-year-old for £1million, after showing considerable promise as a youngster with Charlton.

This guy was born in England, lived in England all his life – if I’m not mistaken – and still lives in England.
I never heard his name before I read about him today – do you think we might be stretching the old “Irish” thing a bit here?

Not all nineteen-year-old youths act in such a criminal manner. He may well have ended his career before it began.

Anyone who drinks and drives should be shot. A bit harsh I know but that’s how I feel about that.

He is 19. Everyone messes up around that age and does stuff your not proud off when looking back later in life. Would not blame him too much. Hopefully he will settle down and get his head together to give the Football a proper go. This could be the kick up the backside he needs.
