David Forde 7 – Had little or nothing to do but showed a safe pair of hands on the rare occasions he was called upon.
Seamus Coleman 7 – Didn’t get forward as much as he could have in the first half but made up for that with a nice ball for the second goal and was a threat after the break.
John O’Shea 6 – A quiet night for him and his central defensive partner.
Sean St Ledger 6 -With O’Shea, the Leicester defender wasn’t given much work to do by the Faroes.
Marc Wilson 6 – Solid performance from the Stoke man and got the ball out to McGeady early. Came off injured.
Aiden McGeady 8 – Ireland’s biggest threat in the first half and ran his marker ragged on the left flank.
Glenn Whelan 6 – Shielded the Irish defence and never stopped working for the team.
Wes Hoolahan 8 – Wanted the ball at every opportunity, had a hand in two goals and made Ireland tick on his competitive debut.
Simon Cox 6 – It’s clear to everyone but Trap that he’s not a right winger.
Jon Walters 6 – Put himself about and didn’t give the Faroes a minute’s peace. Replaced by Conor Sammon.
Robbie Keane 9 – A hat-trick on the night he becomes Ireland’s most capped player.
Substitutes
Conor Sammon6 – Set up the third goal.
James McClean 5 – Didn’t make a huge impact upon his introduction.
Surely he can’t be dropped now, him and McCarthy would be a dynamic midfield, if Trap doesn’t play Hoolahan in the next game he should actually be sacked
Every player on that team last night bar Hoolahan and Keane were in the zone. They had no desire to show off their skills in front of the crowd on a beautiful sunny night. Traps comment about sunlight was archaic to say the least. Does he think that professional players cant play in sunshine. This fellow ought to be given the door now . He is useless cant even speak the language properly. Fair play to Keane..we would be desperate without him. More of Hoolahan please and players who want to play. Remember most of our players are not world beaters so a desire to play and try things out would keep supporters happy.
Unfortunately Whelan on the whole is shockingly poor. At fault for late goal against Austria, at fault for all 3 goals in croatia game at the euros and count others. McLean is finding feet in the first 11 and has creativity. Whelan has had yrs and offers nothing.
I hold my hand up, i had said before that Ireland should get used to life without Keane. If we did’nt have him, my god, we’d have drawn with a weakened Faroes team.
Same result Germany had against them a few months ago. 3-0 in ANY international against ANY team is a great result. I’m not denying the performance could have been better but great result
Mcgeady 8 are you serious? His pace was good but the end product was awful. He still has to take 3 or four touches before hitting his cross against the first defender. Hasn’t preformed in years for Ireland
Ok only result and fair play to keane on his hatrick.but my god how is McGeady a professional footballer when he cannot cross the ball. That was a shocking performance by him.
Saying that the Faroes left back fitted my kitchen a few years back and did a smashing job so he should hold his head high.
Glenn whelan was shocking again,,he’s a terrible player, must be the only centre mid player in the world that doesnt want the ball, meyler or hendrick would be better than him
Think people are just listening to Eamon Dunphy about McGeady. He set up the first goal and was Ireland’s best player in the first half. Give the lad a break
Some people being awfully harsh to the Irish team here. Yes, it wasn’t our best performance of all time, but there was much to inspire confidence. That second goal; there is not a team in the world that is defending that. Perfect overlap by Coleman, superb vision to spot him and a great ball in. Add in one or two good passes in the lead in and you’ve got a superbly developed goal. There were continual flashes of excellence going forward that gives a lot of hope for the post trap era.
Ireland’s problem isn’t lack of attacking ability. I actually quite enjoyed watching us play in and around the box. The major issue is the downright refusal to build play up into that position. This long ball dross coming from the ball is horrendous. It’s a legitimate tactic in that if you win it you can spread and pounce quickly, which Dortmund for example have exploited fantastically. However, we have no target up front. Keane is not going to win ball in the air and be able to send it to the wingers. Additionally, if you’re going to play long off a goal kick you need to have a better distributer in goal than Forde. Lamping the ball forward is of no benefit if you’re going to lose it, and the number of balls Forde gave away due to poor kicking was incredible.
I think McGeady deserves more credit than he’s given in these comments. He was fantastic down the wing in the first half. He often comes across as a player who’s feet are quicker than his head, and that shown through again today. But he kept working down the flank, showed pace and commitment, and was a constant threat against an albeit poor Faroe defence. I don’t think he’s an out an out winger though. His inability to cross is striking, and with a man of his skill he’d be much better used cutting in and attacking players/pulling markers. Nonetheless, today was probably one of the best games I’ve seen him play in a green jersey in recent times. He’s been poor and really stepped it up today in my eyes.
3-0 is a good result. Even in the good old days with our best players who did we ever put more than 5 past? As usual the RTE panel overestimate the quality of the irish players on show.
Against the likes of the Faroes, the result is all that counts. The only games that matter is the sweden home game and austria away game. That determines if we get a playoff place. Only then can we accurately assess and criticise Trap.
Had to turn off the RTE coverage after listening to panel , especially Dunphy ok we get it you don’t want trap as manager ,bit of perspective we won 3-0 in an international qualifier against a mediocre team, job done for tonight lets hope we get through this group would of been nice for Sweden to equalise against Austria ,would of put us in better position but nothing is a surety in football that’s why we love the game and I really want to know who Dunphy and co would like to see as manager who will turn Ireland into this super team who should be winning all in front of them
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a family man, but what’s the story with all the kids in the team pict, never seen the likes before especially before a World Cup qualifying game. And just for the record, it’s sad that wes or James mc won’t start against Sweden, just sad.
I wondered why, for a long time I stopped watching Ireland in de football. Well, the whole lot came flooding back. Poison. Against a gang of two bit barmen/binmen etc. etc. Well done RK but….
Delighted for Keaneo, it wasn’t so long ago, (as far as i can recall-when) Eamon Dunphy was castigating Robbie’s performance in previous games (when was playing in the U.S.) he also stated that he was too old to be playing international football. Eamon was full of praise (and rightly so) for Robbie’s performance this evening.
He has scored against Spain, Germany, Italy, France, what kind of teams do you want him to prove himself against so? He is a sensational finisher and had been a great servant to his country
How could u rate anybody more than 5 other than Keane, we were playin the Faroe Islands probably the worst team in Europe
We were poor, long ball, no game plan or plan B our only ball player will probebly b on the bench nxt game
We are a poor team at the minute
The Faroes may be crap. But there are worse believe it or not. San Marino, Andorra, Liechenstein, Luxembourg.
The lads can only beat whats in front of them. And they did so, easily. We expected 3 points and thats what we got. The next two games could decide everything. So lets hope the lads can build on it and put in some good shifts against Spain and Wales.

Delighted for Robbie tonight, and Hoolahan had a great game, definitely brings a bit of attacking flair to the midfield..
6 for cox 2 more like trap implied Wes hoolian won’t play next game sad
Hoolahan did have a cracking game but we all know where he will be come the next match….
Surely he can’t be dropped now, him and McCarthy would be a dynamic midfield, if Trap doesn’t play Hoolahan in the next game he should actually be sacked
Does anyone seriously think both wes and McCarthy will play. It would be Andrews if fit and whelan all the way.
An 8 for McGeady? That’s awfully generous of you.
Eh, James McLean set up a goal, more than that Whelan fella has done in the last 20 matches. I’d put Whelan on 3 for managing to be selected.
Mcgeady and Cox were uselesss
Wilson 6 – ate you kidding me? More like 4.
3 I’d say. He had a nightmare.
Rob, have a look back at the Austria game and you’ll see this:
We won 5 corner kicks. James McClean took all of them. And none of them.beat thw first man.
Then we won another corner. This time Whelan took it. Goal.
Unfortunately Whelan on the whole is shockingly poor. At fault for late goal against Austria, at fault for all 3 goals in croatia game at the euros and count others. McLean is finding feet in the first 11 and has creativity. Whelan has had yrs and offers nothing.
Solid performance for Wilson? Worst game for him by a fair distance in a green shirt.
Love him or hate him, Keane got the job done tonight. Can’t have been too much short of a 10. Ledge
I hold my hand up, i had said before that Ireland should get used to life without Keane. If we did’nt have him, my god, we’d have drawn with a weakened Faroes team.
Why is it always Keane that scores? It’s no coincidence, he’s simply brilliant at getting in the correct position to score goals. Delighted for him.
MCGeady 8?! Watching a different game lads.
McGeady was shocking.. Everything he does looks like it’s by accident.
Again he proved his final touch / crossing was awful. I guess Trap can’t see that far from the half way.
3-0 against a pub team? Well done Robbie, but should put a bit of perspective on this result. Should have been 6-0 if we’d played an attacking game.
Same result Germany had against them a few months ago. 3-0 in ANY international against ANY team is a great result. I’m not denying the performance could have been better but great result
Now if only Keane could do it v the big teams.
Like Germany, Croatia, Spain, France, the aqueducts, sanitation…..
Mcgeady 8 are you serious? His pace was good but the end product was awful. He still has to take 3 or four touches before hitting his cross against the first defender. Hasn’t preformed in years for Ireland
End product awful?
He crossed for the first goal.
Ok only result and fair play to keane on his hatrick.but my god how is McGeady a professional footballer when he cannot cross the ball. That was a shocking performance by him.

Glenn whelan was shocking again,,he’s a terrible player, must be the only centre mid player in the world that doesnt want the ball, meyler or hendrick would be better than him
If Conor Salmon can play for Ireland,so can I !!!!!
I 2nd that, Gio give the man a cap.
That was f#%king awful sh1te. The one that has a bit of spark doesn’t fit in a Stone Age “system” so he can’t play. Trap out!
Aiden McGeady should be jailed for impersonating a footballer….
In before the “I had Keane as first goalscorer” crew
Paddy Power gave evens on R Keane to score anytime (€20 max bet) to their online customers. Easiest 20 bucks I’ve ever won!! Cheers Paddy :)
Great bet man, that was near guaranteed!
Terrible performance, imo.
Think people are just listening to Eamon Dunphy about McGeady. He set up the first goal and was Ireland’s best player in the first half. Give the lad a break
And because we are blessed with soooo many creative players….

Be careful Jakim, talking sense doesn’t go down well on here
Common sense review of the game. Well done

The lads on the panel and keanes goals were the best part about the whole match. Dunphy & Co say the truth and people don’t like hearing the truth
So who do you think would do a better job as manager GOD !
nicky dunphy is a muppett
How come dummy sorry dunphy not a manager if he knows everything about the universe he’s a bullshitter supreme
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a family man, but what’s the story with all the kids in the team pict, never seen the likes before especially before a World Cup qualifying game. And just for the record, it’s sad that wes or James mc won’t start against Sweden, just sad.

Trap. should sue God for for allowing the sun to rob the Irish team of two to three goals
I made the BBC!

Are you saying Holahan should get no more than a five? My God man, he ran the show tonite.
We won 3 nil.
The Faroes may be crap. But there are worse believe it or not. San Marino, Andorra, Liechenstein, Luxembourg.

eamonn dunphy you should take charge of the team if ya think your good enough
clueless ratings
The mach was nice but Robie is only show man no real player like other guys
I loved his showmanship spectacular overhead scissors bikey air shot.
Paul what are you?
How could you rate anybody above 5the passing was second rate.
Because we won 3 nil.
We beat Germany 3-0, or Spain is it?
Neither. It was the Faroes.
Mcgeady was shite!!! As always.
