ROBBIE BRADY AND Marc Wilson will make their first competitive starts as the Republic of Ireland look to put their German nightmare behind them against the Faroe Islands.
Brady created Ireland’s only goal, headed home by Andy Keogh in stoppage time, and the Manchester United youngster’s brief cameo was one of very few silver linings in a dismal 6-1 defeat last Friday.
The 20-year-old is included by manager Giovanni Trapattoni in midfield, one of three changes made by the under-fire Italian for tomorrow evening’s World Cup qualifier in Torshavn.
Stoke City defender Wilson is named at left-full in an otherwise unchanged back four, while captain Robbie Keane returns to win his 122nd international cap having shaken an Achilles’ injury which he aggravated in training last week.
Keane sat out the defeat to Germany as a result but is fit again to lead the line alongside Jonathan Walters in Trapattoni’s 4-4-2 formation.
Republic of Ireland (v Faroe Islands): Westwood, Coleman, O’Shea, O’Dea, Wilson, Brady, Andrews, McCarthy, McGeady, Keane, Walters.
Clark for O’Dea but other than that not too bad. Even if we win by 10 we still need to change things from Delaney down to school boys!!
Rumours from where? Me arse
Totally agree, the fai are not doing a good enough job, our domestic league needs a total revamp, the airtricity league has a image it cant seem to shake.
much better team selection at least
McGeady and O’Dea???!
Yeah Declan. And you can add Keane to that list also. Having said that it’s the kind of game that he’ll score in which’ll mean we’ll have to suffer his presence for another while.
Delighted to see young Robbie Brady in the staring line up! This young lad is the future. Trap out!!
O’Dea again
worse than o dea
robbie keane from mickey mouse league in states gets picked before long ,.jesus can it get any worse.? Shane its time to tell trap where to stick it
.Shocking
Well Keane can score goals and he is pretty sharp atm.
Conor Tobin nothing is worse than o’dea. I don’t tink keane shud start either but o’dea should be put straight into the bin. What does he have to do to get dropped. I don’t know anything about LOI but i seriously doubt he’d get into the sligo team or any of the other top teams.
Sorry that’s to Chris Tobin
Barry, whatever your opinion about O’Dea’s lack of quality he has been picked to represent our national team, your anger should be with the manager not the player. You don’t hear a peep of controversy out of O’Dea. Give the guy a break.
Can’t believe Joe Lapira isn’t in the squad… absolute disgrace!
@Jude Collins…your Granny Joan could move quicker than O Dea…
Ha isnt that the guy that got a cap in the US because his folks are pals with Delaney!!!!
Joe lapira is in a state penn I heard. He does have great hair though which is why stan picked him
Shocking that O Dea is in instead of Clarke, get rid of the senile millionaire.
Ciaran Clark?
ireland were never goin to beat the germans no mattercwat team der was on d pitch. we wud hav struggled no mattervwat manager was der on friday. bad result of course but some of ye need t cop on
was that English?
Worse English than Trappatoni!
Daragh, hows the new journo job going at ‘The Sun’?
Maybe, but normally Irish teams put up a fight. The players looked once again as if they didn’t know what to do. We always put up a fight, the fact that we didn’t says alot about trap.
Surely the players not putting up a fight is the players fault, not the managers. A good few of the players are getting away very lightly during all this. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending trapatonni but he’s not 100% to blame either.
David Im not sure how many Ireland games you’ve been to or watched under Traps reign. The Irish players don’t know what to do with the ball. That is down to the manager. There are no instructions. Its plainly obvious to anybody that knows anything about soccer.
Players don’t know what to do with the ball? If that’s the case they shouldn’t be playing football professionally. I was at the match the other night, the three centre midfielders stood looking at ozil & co knocking it about, there was no pressure or intensity in closing down/chasing compared to any time Ireland had it they were hounded out of it. As inept a trapatonni is tactically, the players have to shoulder responsibility too, they’re all big boys. As I said, I’m not defending trapatonni, my point was that players are happy enough for trapatonni to take the blame, at the end of the day there were 11 of them strolling about on the pitch feeling sorry for themselves too
Its the lack of spirit, organization and belief the team displayed on Friday that is most upsetting. We can accept defeat to a great German team but we can’t accept our team simply rolling over like that. Trap is destroying our national team. He must go.
how mcgeady gets a starting place every time i do not know…the man is a headless chicken on the pitch
About time Wilson made his debut! Why is O’Dea still in there when you have Ciaran Clark… Why Trap why..
Too little too late, Trap.
Faroe Islands 10/1 is a great price
I can’t believe Sean Quinn isn’t it for O’Dea. After all those people rallied in support of him in Cavan yesterday. He should be Captaining the team, such a national treasure he is.
I blame the league of Ireland for our poor national team, they haven’t contributed any players in years. We can’t keep relying on foreign leagues to feed our national team.
I blame the muppets who spend their time “supporting” English teams. If you look at the amount spent on sky sports, replica kits, supporters clubs and flights over to watch games. That money could work wonders going to league of Ireland
league of Ireland is a joke and needs a leader and absolute complete overhaul from the very bottom. Lessons from Spain need to be applied and the old fashioned lovers of mediocracy need to be ignored.
Too little too late
Roy Keane and Denis Irwin would be s great management duo at least they would create a will to win and a passion to succeed which we have not seen from an Irish team or Irish management structure since Big Jack
Slight problem with Roy Keane, he’s proven to be a rubbish manager with no man management skills
@Matt so winning the 1st Divison in England from bottom and getting into the Premier league in your first season managing is a failure?
Wouldn’t it be great if we could stick Gary Breen back in at centre back. Sure life would be great then
O Dea selected again. A mickey mouse player in a mickey mouse league. And Ciaran Clark a proven Premier League player AGAIN left on bench. shocking!
o dea should never be left wear a irish top again .
Even on holidays with his mates
bit harsh
If the FAI bring back Mick McCarthy. I’m not watching Ireland play again. He is a crap manager who got Wolves relegated.
I think you’ll find that was a combination of no money from the board and terry “I’ve been assistant to the last 5 managers and I have a clipboard” Connor, and despite that he kept us up for 2 seasons against the odds.
Is that terry Connors real middle? Very exotic. Kill trap abs bring back mick I say
What is O’Dea doing there?
Is that Leim Brady coming back lol
Good that Wilson is starting. Incredible that Clark or Kelly isn’t in for O’Dea. Imo Brady is not ready for a start but its a chance for him. He needs to leave United asap though. Pilkington, Hoolahan, Noel Hunt are players who should be included in the squad. Alex Peace as well and so should Stephen Dawson.
O’Dea is a solid defender regardless whether or not he plays in the premier league or in the states
Sister?
Lol cousin
Hopefully they fly Ryanair and lands them in Edinburgh and miss the match if they loose to Faroe they shouldn’t be let back into the country when they visit from England every now and again
I can’t believe Sean Quinn isn’t in for O’Dea. After all those people rallied in support of him in Cavan yesterday. He should be Captaining the team, such a national treasure he is.
Why is Sean Quinn not in for O’Dea? After all those people in Cavan turned out to support him yesterday. He’s a national treasure and deserves his place in the first 11, surely?
It’s getting old now..
Sean quinn is past it, ya he was good back in the day but when he done cruciate that was the end of the line, now dont get me wrong, im not saying he’s a terrible footballer but there are better centre halfs out there. He was a great ambassoder for cavan and anglo irish bank.
