If Deccie's stuck for an out-half, he might want to check the Irish police rugby team

The combined An Garda Siochana-PSNI team take on the French police in the RDS on Friday night (and it’s free in).

MEET THE POLICEMEN who will be concentrating on penalty kicks rather than penalty points this weekend.

On the eve of Ireland’s Six Nations clash against France, the Ireland police rugby team take on their French counterparts in the RDS, Dublin on Friday night.

The Irish side, which is made up of serving police officers from An Garda Síochana and the PSNI, played its first game back in March 2003 and will be hoping to mark their 10th birthday by completing a French double. The two countries have only met once before, in Paris last year, in a game which Ireland won 16-12.

“Rugby has been a great force for bringing people together and encouraging respect among communities and this is particularly true in Ireland thanks to the international team,” captain Damien Broughal said.

“[France] are strong, skillful and determined but we feel we have a team with the experience and talent to beat them again, particularly at home.”

Kick-off in the RDS is at 6.30pm and admission is free — so if Paddy Jackson doesn’t recover from his little injury and ROG isn’t answering his phone, Declan Kidney might find himself on an impromptu out-half scouting mission…
