THE FAI HAVE confirmed that Martin O’Neill’s Ireland will face Oman in an international friendly match at the Aviva on the 3rd of September.
Currently sitting 82nd in FIFA’s official world rankings, Oman are coached by ex-Rangers and PSG manager Paul Le Guen. Among their playing ranks is Wigan Athletic ‘keeper Ali Al-Habsi.
Ireland have met Oman in a friendly before, with Robbie Brady, Alex Pearce, Shane Long and Kevin Doyle all scoring in a 4-1 win at Craven Cottage in September 2012. Among the Arab state’s most recent results are 0-0 draws with Finland and Jordan, as well as a 3-1 victory over Singapore.
The FAI say this fixture will provide O’Neill and his assistant, Roy Keane, with “a further opportunity to run the rule over his squad as they set out on their EURO 2016 qualification campaign.”
Ireland play Gibraltar on the 11th of October, while 2015 brings Scotland, Poland and England to Dublin. The FAI are offering 2014/15 Season Tickets to provide access to all of the above fixtures, starting at €138 for adults.
Another sell out, I’m sure.
Oman obviously won’t sell out the Aviva but when you look at the quality of our opposition in the actual qualifying campaign I think it’s a good idea to play against a rubbish team. Get 4 or 5 goals, boost confidence, try out a few new people and boost morale.
17th of May – Arsenal 3-0 Hull City Tigers
Ramsey – (30) (69)
Giroud – (80)
Arteta – missed penalty (21)
Meyler – sent off (20)
I think Giroud should be the one to score on 69.
Could be an oman for Ireland in the future
OMan I don’t think I can contain the excitement
Games like this are the problem with having to play every game in the Aviva. There’s unlikely to be more than 10-15000 at the game and the atmosphere wil be dead. If it could have been moved to the RDS a crowd that size would create a decent atmosphere.
Que sarcastic comments about excitement etc
Surely Ireland can beat owoman?
Taxi for Daniel.
Actually i prefer using the bus
#glamourtie
What a terrible friendly to announce….and on a weds night! I’d just bought my season ticket yest too, there’s no chance I’ll travel from Galway to see that.
Easy win for the Republic of Ireland
So the Oman. Damien Delaneys a shoe in to start
A very good team to play before the georgia match, try some new players, score a few goals, win it easily ,no injuries and off to tbilisi and hopefully a win,MON head is well screwd on,he,s not interested in attendances for friendlies, just getting the preparation right,we will qualify under the two lads, ive no doubt in my mind.
