Craven Cottage confirmed for Ireland v Italy friendly

Martin O’Neill will take his team to London for the fixture on 31 May.

THE FAI HAS announced that Ireland will meet Italy at London’s Craven Cottage on 31 May (7.45pm).

The Boys in Green are lining up a number of friendly games for the end of the season and a visit of Turkey to Dublin on 25 May will be followed by a fixture against the Azzurri at Fulham’s home ground six days later.

On the same night, Wembley Stadium hosts the re-match between Carl Froch and George Groves.

It will be the 14th time that the teams have faced each other — the last meeting ended in a 2-0 win to Cesare Prandelli’s side at Euro 2012.

While they have yet to be confirmed,  Ireland are also in talks to play Costa Rica and Portugal in the US on 7 and 10 June.

Tickets for the game, starting at £10 for U16s and £25 for adults, are available through Fulham’s ticket office by calling +44 (0)843 208 1234, or by accessing their online portal: www.fulhamfc.com/tickets from Monday, March 24 at 10am.

Convert the pound to euro, you’ll earn more and maybe the FAI will sell the Aviva Stadium? Move to London, increase their wages and allow us watch the recorded versions of matches?

they will make more if 24,000 fans watch them in london rather than 48,000 watch them in the Aviva, sounds impossible don’t it

How exactly? Still don’t get it. I think it’s good for the thousands of irish living in London but still can’t see how it benefits Fai? Is it purely that they don’t have to cover players travelling expenses to Dublin? But they have to come over for turkey game anyway

    This is getting embarrassing now.

I thought that the Aviva had to be paid for (and hence no internationals in Croke Park)?

Can someone tell me if Italy wanted it there or if the FAI are actually getting more revenue from having it there?

    I can’t see how.

Italy v Ireland would be a sellout anywhere in Ireland, but someone in the FAI decided it would be better to overcharge a smaller number of Irish and Italian ex-pats, plus no pesky kid tickets to worry about when doing the numbers for Landsdown Road.

I cannot image any other country tolerating their national team playing their home games in a smaller ground in another country. It will probably be only on Sky as well. Hopefully England will be playing an International as well, so at least we get to see something on TV.

It’s good for ex pats there but these games not been big sellers. I would imagine fai reckon aviva won’t sell enough that time of yr n logistically it be maybe cheaper to hold in London for both teams?
