Ireland down two in latest FIFA rankings

Spain remain the world’s number one side with Germany in second ahead of their trip to Dublin next week.

THE REPUBLIC OF Ireland have fallen two places to 28th in the October FIFA World Rankings, released on Wednesday morning.

This latest drop for Giovanni Trapattoni’s side comes despite a win in their opening World Cup 2014 qualifier against Kazakhstan and a friendly victory against Oman in London last month.

It is Ireland’s lowest position since September 2011 when they slipped to 29th following three consecutive scoreless draws against Croatia, Slovakia and Russia.

Algeria, South Korea and Mali are among the sides now ranked above Ireland.

Reigning World and European champions Spain remain at number one with Germany, who travel to Dublin for a World Cup qualifier on 12 October, unchanged in second place.

Portugal move up one place to third while Argentina jump three spots to fourth. Roy Hodgson’s England drop two places to fifth with the Netherlands, Uruguay, Italy, Colombia and Greece rounding out the top 10.

Lets be honest, we shouldn’t be in the top 50.

These rankings are as dodgy as Sepp Blatter! England 5th best in the world? They aren’t the 5th best team in Europe!
