DUBLIN COULD BE chosen to host four matches as part of the 2020 European Football Championship.
UEFA is pressing ahead with plans to turn the tournament into a pan-European spectacle for its 60th anniversary.
Ireland is one of 32 countries to officially declare their interest with Dublin set to be the host city if the bid is successful.
The FAI now has until April 2014 to finalise their bid. Speaking at the Association’s AGM in July, chief executive John Delaney said that the proposal would be financially viable in seven years’ time.
The tournament will be staged across 13 different cities. Matches are split into 13 different packages: 12 standard packages, which includes three group matches and a knockout round match, and one separate package for the semi-finals and final.
Although countries can apply for a standard package and for a final package, each with different venues, only one bid will be accepted.
A final decision on host cities will be taken by the UEFA Executive Committee in September 2014.
