THE FAI HAS announced that Ireland will welcome England to Dublin for an international friendly next summer.
Chief executive John Delaney revealed earlier this year that he was hopeful of a meeting between the nations in 2015 after they played for the first time in 18 years at Wembley Stadium last May.
While talks had taken place, the parties agreed to wait until after the Euro 2016 draw to confirm a date and a brief statement released this afternoon reads:
“The Football Association of Ireland today announced that England will make a historic first visit to the new Aviva Stadium on Sunday, June 7, 2015.
Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane’s EURO 2016 campaign gets underway this autumn and the season ticket will include exciting home matches in that campaign, amongst them Scotland and Poland as well as the much anticipated England friendly match on June 7.”
Roy Hodgon’s side have been grouped with Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica at this summer’s World Cup while Ireland begin their qualification campaign for the upcoming European Championships away to Georgia in September.
The game next June will also mark 20 years since the infamous Lansdowne Road riot.
