IRFU confirms that Australia test is a sell-out

The second game of the autumn schedule joins the New Zealand fixture in selling out.

THE POSITIVE BUZZ around the Irish rugby team continues to build with news that the November test match against Australia in Dublin is a sell-out.

The IRFU today confirmed the that all remaining tickets for the Wallabies game have been snapped up, joining the All Blacks fixture in selling out. Irish rugby’s governing body is now warning hesitant fans that tickets are also going fast for Saturday’s clash with Samoa.

With the Australia game having sold out, the IRFU is now looking forward to at least 140,000 rugby supporters attending the three games this month, although further sales of tickets for the Samoa encounter will push that figure up. That means there is already a guaranteed increase of 10% from the per match attendance figures from the November tests in 2012.

The optimism created by the appointment of Joe Schmidt as the national coach has certainly played a part in the success, although the strength of the opposition in the coming weeks is also an attraction. Either way, the IRFU will be delighted to have been given a much-needed financial boost.

Padraig Power, the IRFU’s Commercial and Marketing Director, commented: “With just days to go until the first ball in kicked in the 2013 GUINNESS Series, a record number of rugby fans from all over the country have pledged their support to the Irish team with over 140,000 tickets now sold – and two games sold out.

“Feedback from some fans on Facebook suggests that many left it a little too late to secure New Zealand tickets. Now with the Australia game also sold out, we are urging fans who want to see top quality international rugby this November to snap up a Samoa ticket as soon as possible.”

Tickets for the clash against Samoa are still available for as little as €12.50. Let’s hope the current atmosphere of excitement and anticipation around the Irish national team lasts beyond this month.
