IRELAND MANAGER SUE Ronan expressed her relief after her side earned a crucial 1-0 victory over Croatia in yesterday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier at Tallaght Stadium.
Denise O’Sullivan’s last-gasp close-range strike handed her side all three points, after a Stephanie Roche cross has been knocked down by Fiona O’Sullivan.
“I think the win was no more than we deserved,” said Ronan after the game.
“They made it very hard for us but we kept our composure throughout, kept trying to the right things and had the character to keep plugging away before finally getting the winning goal in injury-time.”
Ireland now must win away to Russia on Thursday to get themselves back into contention for a World Cup play-off spot.
