JOHN O’SHEA could be left out of Saturday’s friendly with Bosnia Herzegovina as a “precautionary measure”, the FAI said today.
The experienced Sunderland defender has been receiving treatment on an ankle he aggravated on the last day of the Premier League season and although he may not be involved in the warm-up fixture this weekend, his involvement in Euro 2012 is not believed to be in doubt.
Given, meanwhile, took a knock to his knee on Monday and will sit out training for the next couple of days. However, the FAI were keen to stress that neither injury is seen as a major concern.
“Shay Given picked up a minor knee injury in training yesterday,” an FAI statement read. “After undergoing a scan, it was concluded that Shay should sit out training for the next 2-3 days for precautionary measures.
Giovanni Trapattoni has also decided that John O’Shea may not partake in Saturday’s game against Bosnia for precautionary measures, but has confirmed that John will be fit in time for Euro 2012. John is undergoing rehabilitative treatment this week on his ankle.
Skipper Robbie Keane, who returned to Dublin from the US on Monday morning with a hamstring injury which kept him out of LA Galaxy’s last fixture, could play some part in training this morning.
