In pictures: the 2011 Dublin City Marathon

14,000 hardly souls and one frustratingly circuitous route from Fizwilliam Street to Merrion Square.

Well done everyone! Hope ye had a great day.
I was surprised at level of media coverage for the Dublin Marathon. 10,000 ran for the Cork marathon and it was barely mentioned on RTE news. I turned on the telly today to see full coverage on a dedicated programe. However I’m delighted though to see more media coverage of sports that aren’t the holy trinity of soccer/gaa/rugby.

This is the first year of live coverage and I presume the new sponsorship deal with national lottery drove it quite a bit. Dublin is also the national championship which would attract more attention.
