WELL, THIS IS a new one.
The Aviva Stadium tried out American Football posts this morning as part of preparations for the Navy versus Notre Dame game in Ballsbridge next September.
We reckon Rog and/or Jonny Sexton would still fancy their chances.

I would love to see a competitive NFL game played over here. Think weโd definitely have the interest for it.
Dan Rooney keeps saying heโd like to bring his team over here. I think with the CBA negotiations over the past off season, there wasnโt any time to organise a Dublin game but maybe in a year or two we might see a Steelers game over here.
They shouldnโt allow foreign sports in the Aviva stadium.
Hopefully that was a sarcastic comment ;)
I dont think there is any point in staging an NFL game in Ireland as most people wouldnโt have a clue about the rules and would be hard to create any sort of decent atmosphere to portray how good the sport is.
As for college Football, that is a whole different ball game. Both colleges will have a decent traveling support and will be excited to play in a different country. Plus its Notre Dame.
Yes we would understand the rules. Very few know every single rule in rugby yet tens of thousands attend games every season.
Thats because their is a connection there as its either Ireland or a province playing.
But i would love to see an NFL game in Ireland.
Every day there seems to be a story on the score about an American sport and rarely is there even a comment on it. I doubt there is an appetite
Im pretty certain thereโs a whole big world outside the journal and the score. You should try it out sometime. :-)
Jesus, thanks for that. Iโll try that
In the meantime, while you are on the score website, you might have a look at some of the articles. People really only post on GAA, rugby and football pieces etc in the main. I think getting something like an NFL game could be great but be realistic, it might work once
Alan I work for a large gaming company here and I see the breakdown on the amount of money wagered on different sports. You would be amazed at the financial interest in the NFL by Irish bettors which Iโd gauge as a better indicator than the score. Check the attendance for the Notre Dame game and then add a lot more people if we had a team like the Steelers or Cowboys playing over here. If the pricing was done right w
it would sell out.
I place a small bet every Saturday through the paddy power app on my phone and it is usually a pure punt on whatever horse race is on. In reality if the race was outside my window, Iโd draw the curtains as it isnโt my thing. People placing bets on a sport surely doesnt gauge how popular that sport is?
Okay so horse racing is the most bet on sport on Paddy Power. Would you say that is a popular sport in Ireland? The second most bet on is Soccer/Football. Would you say thats a popular sport? You see where Iโm going with this? If you want to see NFL popularity in Dublin go into the Woolshed on Sunday evening. If you wonโt use sports betting figures to gauge the popularity of a sport what do you use?
Thatโs the difficulty, not as if it is going to be included in the census!
Which is why I picked the score reaction in the first place
Right youโve abandoned all logic. Fact of the matter is the 2 sports I named are 2 of the most popular sports in Ireland. Apply that rationale to how popular NFL is to bet on and youโve a fair idea that a game in the Aviva would sell out easy if not it might have to be in Croker. Think about what Iโm saying to you.
