The Aviva Stadium tried out American Football posts this morning as part of preparations for the Navy versus Notre Dame game in Ballsbridge next September.
We reckon Rog and/or Jonny Sexton would still fancy their chances.
If the leinster council wont give the a fair crack then they should leave, a 20k hand out is not sufficient when they arent allowed home fixtures and under age teams arent allowed compete
Fair crack or no, its too late for that , how we put up with the treatment from the Leinster council for as long as we did is amazing , and If Munster give us a fair hearing, what a championship twill be. Its got to be done, ASAP.
@Gerry Campbell: it’ll be great news for Thurles town anyway but the Munster championship will become a real slog leaving Kilkenny fresh and ready so we’ll have to wait and see.
Galway’s grievances are fair. Leinster counties self interest here should be overruled by Croke Park for the good of the game. While Galway in Munster would be fascinating it would further unbalance an already lopsided championship. It would mean 6 potential All – Ireland winners at one side (once Cork get their act together) on one side and one (a little harsh on Dublin and Wexford) on the other side. You would even have to consider the fairness of offering both championships equal qualifying spots for the All – Ireland championship at that stage.
Bang on Johnny 5 time for croke park to take it out of Leinster call Galway out of leinster would give kilkenny cake walk to all ireland semi while 6 teams in munster going hell for leather versus each other
Munster has been brutal for a number of years now with Tipp dominating and attendances way down. Open draw, there would still be plenty of all Munster match ups throughout the championship and give the gate receipts for the Munster derby games to the Munster council, will work out the same or even better for them.
Galway should never have joined Leinster on the terms they did join.
If your senior team is in a championship so too should your minors and U21s.
That’s the issue for me not the fact that we don’t get home games.
When Galway were in Munster in the 60s their underage teams were too.
Understandable, Munster is the only hurling province worth looking at. But I think the entire provincial structure should be dumped. Between football & hurling, there’s 8 provincial championships & only Munster hurling & Ulster football are competitive. Time to scrap it in my opinion.
Don’t see why? The Munster Hurling Championship (unlike the football) is very strong with 5 prominent hurling counties out of 6. The Leinster Hurling Championship, by contrast, needs to be far more competitive as Kilkenny have had it pretty much their own way since 2000. With the demise of Offaly and Wexford hurling during this time, only Dublin, with just one title and Galway themselves have threatened Kilkenny’s dominance. Leave it as it is.
I’m afraid the Munster hurling championship still is a very high prestigious competition, more so I think than any other provincial competition in any code. So I don’t see that happening. I don’t think this is a legitimate proposal, just one that has been put forward to show that the general hurling person in Galway (who doesn’t respond to €20k for the county board) is looking for a bit of parity across all boards. If the Leinster council wants to keep it competitive then let’s see Kilkenny in Salthill not just at senior but at all grades.
@Camroc would love to see that and I think with a smart approach it could do wonders for the game. Unfortunately the Munster council hold the rest to ransom on this.
Not the point, they abused Galway, offered nothing in return for what they brought to the table, and they can keep it now, and just hand over the cup to the Kilkenny lads in April so everyone can watch the Munster championship .
The Munster championship this year didn’t set things alight either, and I’m sure if tipp had not have won the AI this year they’d not have seen it as a successful year just winning Munster don’t forget it was facile win over Waterford in the final so maybe the open draw is the way to go
@anthony campion: It was so facile that Callanan went to town and the eventual Hurler of the year was taken off. That’s the type of thinking that’s prevalent in this proposal as well. Ignore the best to facilitate some agenda.
I am correct.
Arrangements made be Leinster council who take in account any arrangements existing between counties for home and away. If arrangement exists they go with the counties in question. If no arrangement they send one or both counties on the road.
They also bring at least 5000 fans that drops probably in 80-100k into the coffers of Leinster per game. And we get a paltry 20 K donation back. That is the crux of it – the current setup is unsustainable. Galway hurling would eventually be broke
I’d love to see Galway in munster while it would be bad for us (Cork) it would make an already competitive province even better. If Leinster aren’t going to play ball with them at under age level they’re right to want to switch.
Munster not the competition it was cork, clare, limerick no good! Tipp hammered Waterford in final! Can’t remember any of the games being good last year
Galway should stay in leinster with the sweetner that all their teams senior , u21 & minor play in the leinster championship & that all countys play their matches at neutral venues , no home & away agreements . Theres no other alternative munster have enough teams while going back to connaght would be a backward step for galway
Scrap the provincial championships .The best game this year , in the provincial championships, was the leinster final. All the games in munster were terrible. The whole thing needs a shake up , big time. Proberly wont happen withauld lads over the gaa.
Since 2009 how many home Leinster Championship games have Kilkenny played in Nowlan Park? I haven’t done a google on it but from memory only 1. So the argument of not playing games at home is crap.
Galway have been v poorly treated and we should leave, the bigger picture if they do would be a hugely competitive Munster championship and a hugely weakened Leinster along with a weak ulster and non existent connaught, this could be the beginning of the end of provincial championship s and the beginning of the open draw in a decade??
And Why would Munster agree to take Galway or travel to Galway either? Clare and waterford for example can’t win Munster as it is without adding more competition

Leinster Championship would be nearly worthless without Galway, especially given what’s happening with Dublin.

@Johnny 5:
Open draw for everyone
Munster Championship for all it’s flaws is a golden goose. Better to try reform Munster and bring Leinster up to a similar standard.

It’s not Kilkenny that are blocking Galway’s participation fully in Leinster I’m sure they’d have no problem travelling to Salthill

It is kilkenny and other Leinster counties who won’t enter into home and away arrangements.
Our teams will travel to any county on home/away basis.
what did they bring to the table. one Leinster title. the same year Kilkenny bet them in the all Ireland final.
That’s not true check your facts before you comment, arrangements are made through Leinster Council
