Late Late Show

Have you heard the one about the non-league game with FOUR injury-time goals?

If you like late drama, Alfreton Town vs Hayes & Yeading was the place to be on Saturday.

WE WOULDN’T NORMALLY advocate the Blue Square Bet Premier as the place to go for your fix of footballing drama, but there’s always room for an exception.

As the clock hit 90 at the Impact Arena on Saturday, Alfreton Town led Hayes & Yeading 1-0 and looked set to claim their third win of the season.

But the action wasn’t quite done and, just six minutes later, the Alfreton faithful found themselves celebrating a rather incredible 3-2 victory.

Twice in stoppage time Hayes & Yeading equalised, the first coming courtesy of a 92nd-minute own goal from Alfreton scorer Nathan Arnold before Louie Soares (not that one) cancelled out Jake Moult’s immediate response to make it 2-2 with a minute to play.

Remarkably, Alfreton marched back down the pitch to score an unlikely winner in the dying seconds, Nathan Jarman heading home from close range.

The saddest thing about the whole afternoon? Only 600 people were there.

Why are Jamie Redknapp and the Sky cameras nowhere to be seen when you need them?
