Madigan extends his stay at Leinster with new contract

The province have tied down their talented out-half until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

IAN MADIGAN HAS committed his future to Leinster by agreeing a new deal with the province.

The 24-year-old out-half enjoyed an excellent second half to last season and has been challenged by head coach Matt O’Connor to step up and replace Jonny Sexton, recently departed for Racing Metro, at number 10.

Madigan, who scored 337 points in 81 appearances since making his debut in 2009, has signed an extension which will bring him up to the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

O’Connor told Leinster’s website: “We are delighted that Ian has extended his stay with Leinster.

“He displayed a real level of consistency in his performances last year, which was recognised by his peers in being voted the Bank of Ireland Players Player of the Year as well as picking up the Golden Boot award as the top kicker in the PRO12.

We are confident that his best years are ahead of him and he can achieve even greater things in the years to come.”
