SEVILLA HAVE CONFIRMED that Liverpool striker Iago Aspas is set to join the club on loan until the end of the season.
The deal includes an option to buy the 26-year-old permanently.
Aspas signed for Liverpool from Celta Vigo last summer for a fee of €10 million, but was a major disappointment in the Premier League. The Spaniard made 14 league appearances, failing to score a single goal.
While the 5ft 9ins forward did get on the scoresheet in a FA Cup game against Oldham in January, it appears that Liverpool are now attempting to cut their losses. There has been no announcement of any potential fee should Sevilla look to make the move permanent.
A statement on the La Liga club’s website reads:
Sevilla FC and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement in principle for Iago Aspas. The player will arrive on loan for the 14/15 season with an option to buy. At the end of the season Sevilla FC may exercise a clause to purchase the Galician striker for three years with an option for a fourth.
“The President of Sevilla FC Jose Castro and Ian Ayre, the chief executive of Liverpool have finalised this agreement, which is subject to the Galician footballer passing a medical and the signing of contracts which have been drafted by both clubs.”
Pool buy more than their fair share of poor players
Its always highlighted with the big clubs, but I would say many teams buy duds, or players that are good, but not able to fit in…. Veron was a great player, but could not adapt…. happens all the time….
Big club? Liverpool? ha, its not the 80′s son.
Champions league winners and runners up in 2005 and 2007. In terms of European big clubs Liverpool is still up there, short of the current top runners like Barca, Real, Bayern, Chelsea & City right now but football is cyclical.
For not a big club, always all over the news and swarmed by people who do not follow them….. do not know which is worse….
Thank God Liverpool are putting out that scrap
I liked the rumour mill you guys did every weekday during the transfer window, why’d you stop doing that?
Good, showed great promise in pre season last summer, turned out 2 be a disaster.
Corner kick king Iago Aspas
In all fairness, he at least gets his corners on the field…., saw a corner at the world cup that hit The Christ Redeemer statue….. was an Italy game I think…..
Did not deserve the number 9 shirt!
Worst number 9 in the history of the club.
el hadjii diouf Andy Carroll will take some beating for that accolade
His corner that he took was quite bad!!!
In fairness to Carroll, he did score a few crucial goals. (E.g. vs Everton at Wembley and Goodison Park) 1 FA Cup goal from Aspas vs lower league opposition is a shocking return.
the scrap merchant is going mad in the transfer market again
Good bit of business to get rid of him thank god. Another 10 million down the drain. Lucky to get quarter of that back for him unless Sevilla are pure stupid
