GAA cut ticket prices by almost 40% for hurling replay

Stand tickets for Kilkenny v Galway Part II will now cost €50 while terrace tickets cost €25.

HURLING FANS WILL not have to shell out €80 for tickets to the All-Ireland final replay between Galway and Kilkenny later this month.

The GAA confirmed that ticket prices will be reduced by almost 40% for the replay, fixed for 30 September after the sides played out the first drawn final since 1959 in Croke Park on Sunday.

In a move sure to be welcomed by supporters, stand tickets will cost €50 — down from €80 — while terrace tickets are now priced at €25 — down from €40.

The GAA also expects to sell more than 5,000 children’s tickets, available at a cost of €10 for designated areas of the stadium.

Joe Canning’s stoppage-time equaliser was projected to net the GAA a bonus payday worth €5 million when the sides meet again in three weeks. The boost to the Association’s coffers is now expected to be in the region of €3 million following this morning’s announcement.

That’s an extremely wise, prudent move by the GAA. Shows that they are in touch with the communities that are their lifeblood. Two trips to Dublin in less than a month for families/individuals at yesterday’s price would just not have been feasible.

Those games yesterday were not overpriced, €80 to watch 2 great games. In my opinion money well spent.

Families have less money, ticket sales are higher, but the GAA always get a full house – so it’s not too much to ask that they keep tickets at a cheaper price. Everyone is down on income so if the GAA are down, then so be it.

That would be the real spirit of the game

Attendance at Croke Park is optional. 80 euro was a fair price for the two games yesterday.

Aidan – when u say that the GAA always get a full house it’s just not true. Yesterday was the 2nd time this season that they had a full house at Croker – the 1st being the previous Sunday. The GAA, like every other organisation, have to make the most of their most prestigious event(s). It’s just commercial reality but at least we can agree that they have done the right thing with regard to the replay.

Bet you would pay though €120/150 for a concert
By any standards yesterday’s double bill was never over the top by rock concert standards of charges, in Ireland!

Jesus H Christ, people still giving out about the GAA. If they opened the gates for nothing there’d still he people looking for a free can of coke.

If you think any given game is worth the admission fee, then pay it. If not, watch it on the tele.

Well done to the GAA for the gesture

listening to former GAA president Nicky Brennan being interviewed this morning i learned that over 80cent from every 1? from ticket sales goes directly back into GAA communities around d country n d form of team grants, facility upgrades, underage programs etc…i thought ?80 was v steep yesterday but now that i realise how much goes back into d clubs,i won’t b complaining n future…great gesture to fans to reduce prices so much for d replays…what a fantastic spectacle yesterday, here’s hoping d 30th will b another great day.

They could still have it on the 30th. Nothing is stopping them. The GAA is separate from the Ladies Football Association. Every year the GAA allow them the use of Croke Park on the basis that the LGFA are aware that Croke Park may not be available on their preferred date which may occur in case of a reply in the hurling final.

Some right miseries on here by times. Totally agree with the poster who surmised that should the GAA open the ground for free, that certain others would be cribbing about not getting a free drink. The games were not over-priced yesterday. The football and hurling finals are the pinnacle of our sport, and 80 ‘lids’ a ticket is not extortionate. Others have been moaning about the greed exhibited all year – I brought myself and two of my brood to the AI Football semi between the Dubs & Mayo for €50. Compare FA Cup final, Wimbledon, Superbowl prices and see the value. All that said, it’s a great gesture to price the tickets at the lower price, even though the GAA knows that it could sell it out again with the original pricing structure. Good PR, and good recognition of ‘straightened times’. Nice work GAA.

Have to agree up to the final ticket prices are good value especially for kids -€5 for semis and league games are free in. Only gripe is that all seats yesterday no matter where are €80. Middle of Cusack or Hogan fair enough but the Davin and high up in the top tiers is a bit much.

A fantastic match yesterday and that’s why hurling is the greatest field game in the world.
