ENGLAND HOOKER DYLAN Hartley has been suspended for eight weeks for an bite on Ireland flaker Stephen Ferris during the sides’ recent Six Nations clash.
Hartley was deemed to have broken the IRB law that punishes “acts contrary to good sportsmanship” by a Disciplinary Committee chaired by Roger Morris (Wales) and also comprising Rob Flockhart and Paul Minto (both Scotland).
The Disciplinary Committee considered the evidence in addition to hearing from the player, his legal representative, as well as Jim Mallinder (Director of Rugby, Northampton) and Graham Rowntree (Forwards Coach, England). Ferris also provided evidence via video link.
The suspension, which Hartley has the right to appeal, is due to end on May 13.
The player was previously banned for six months in 2007, after being found guilty of gouging an opponent’s eyes.
