AUSSIE LEGEND TIM HORAN has slammed Ireland for using dirty tactics in Eden Park last weekend, accusing Declan Kidney’s men of faking injuries to gain the upper hand.
In the Australian Telegraph, Horan — capped 80 times by the Wallabies — said that Ireland set out to use injury stoppages to disrupt the flow of the game, and claimed that backs coach Alan Gaffney had admitted as much to him afterwards.
“Ireland had a deliberate plan to fake injuries each time there was a breakdown in play last Saturday, so they could slow the game down and frustrate the Wallabies,” Horan wrote.
How can I be sure? By talking to Irish assistant coach Alan Gaffney in the dressing rooms afterwards.
The former centre also blamed James Horwill for Australia’s 15-6 defeat, blasting the Wallabies captain for not hounding referee Bryce Lawrence until Ireland were penalised for time-wasting.

“If James Horwill was more experienced as a captain, he would have blown up about it to referee Bryce Lawrence and really created a scene – there is no way Richie McCaw would have stayed silent if a team used the same tactics against the All Blacks.”
“The shame was that Lawrence destroyed the spectacle of the game,” Horan wrote.
Ireland deserved to win and always would have won, but the way Lawrence handled the match means he should not get another game at the World Cup.
Australia needs the Irish president. She will go there and sort out everything. She will speak about the “Importance of building bridges” everywhere…our hero! Any 5 star hotels for her and the husband there?
History will be the judge. In four years time all we will remember is that Ireland beat Autralia 15-6. The details about whining and sore losers will be forgotten!
Interesting Horan fails to give even one example of when this happened. I’m struggling to think of any Irish players who got treatment for long periods, with the exception of Gordon Darcy who was eventually substituted and will miss the next game with a calf strain.
man grow a pair of balls and take the defeat god knows ireland took enough of them. Ireland deserved the win and if the aussies cant take a defeat then the world cup is the wrong pllace for ye.
MON IRELAND
it just goes to show Tim horan and all Aussies can not take a beating tri nation winners super rugby champions means very little if you have no pride or passion like us Irish have cmon Ireland!!!!!
Ha! Tim “I’m a whinging baby” Horan would probably explode if he was a kiwi, considering what the French have planned for Saturday (i.e. putting out a make shift team against one of the strongest teams in the tournament in order to gain access to the perceived easier side of the knockout section of the draw) compared to his allegations against Ireland, this palls in comparison. Tim, buddy, ye were beaten by the more savvy and skillful team, deal with it!
I live in France Paul and while your theory has been spread around (and vehemently denied) more commentators think it’s the All-Blacks that could be taking it easy…. guess we’ll find out!
Christina, there is not a fear of the AB’s taking it easy against anyone, that is just not in their make-up. Two scrum halves at 9 and 10 for France, their best hooker on the bench, one of the best back row players on the bench. We’ll see. AB’s by 20 points
Well, not sure Lievremont would share your analysis – he’s getting pretty stroppy when questioned about his ‘interesting’ teamsheet too! But yeah, I can’t see the French taking much from this game, even if they do field their best team…. anyway, enjoy the match!
Serious dose of sour grapes. Best team won. Aussie scrum was shite and there is no way any of our players would fake injury. How many professional fouls were committed by the Aussies? Plenty and one or two lucky to escape a yellow card. That was the only cheating going on.
very poor sportsman ship from horan,he let himself down after such a great career tut tut!! Ireland played like NED KELLY that day……..f,,,ing BULLET PROOF!!!!!! WELL DONE BOYS
There is a huge irony in him referencing Richie mcCaw to speak up against so called cheating when it’s know that McCaw is the most professional ‘off-side by half a yard’ cheat in the game. fact.
I’m fairly certain new Zealand will destroy France. No way they’ll want to loose, Franc will probably be delighted with defeat.
Who fancies Scotland for an upset against the English!?
What utter tripe from Horan. The Aussies sauntered onto the park expecting to wipe Ireland out. They can’t understand how they lost and have resorted to calling Ireland cheats. It was Aussie arrogance matched only by Irish talent and passion that resulted in a beautiful victory. Horan can shove it.
It saddens me that our lads would have to resort to trickery and subversion to win a match. Apparently Irish rugby players are no better than Irish bankers!
So if o’Driscoll drops the shoulder, fakes a pass and sends a opposition player in the other direction he’s no better than Drumm? Come’on now, the Aussies are just sick because they know they will have to go up against the spring boks and most likely get crushed.
Obviously not Nigel. Looked that way, but if you are a former international player like Mrs. Horan, you’d see the subtle signs of gamesmanship by the Irish. Who’d have thought the Australians were bad losers!! Surely not.
Oh Tim, Tim, Tim…… If you were good enough you would have won, you weren’t and you didn’t!!!!!!!
Passion, intensity and the mother of all forwards performance that won it. Sean O’Brien and Stephen Ferris (awesome to see him come through uninjured) broke the gain line time and time again, with the front row absolutely destroying their opposite numbers. The backs defended like deamons and O’Connell marshelled everyone like Rommell in the early days of WWII.
The Aussies got their asses handed to them in a sling.
As I was taught by the good old Christian Brothers…(in sport especially) be magnanimous in defeat and humble in victory. Obviously, our TIm was never heard of this one…
And with a surname like that he must have some Irish blood in him!! Shame Tim, jump on the bandwagon and support your Irish cousins (and as far as i know we’re not related!)

sounds a bit like sour grapes to me!!!
Australia needs the Irish president. She will go there and sort out everything. She will speak about the “Importance of building bridges” everywhere…our hero! Any 5 star hotels for her and the husband there?
Maybe it was sore grapes…
I’m Tim Horan and I’m taking my ball and going home………….loser!
Tim who?????
Nothing like a bad loser allowed access to the media :-)
Gracious in defeat? Perhaps not.
Sore losers and worse winners
Are these the same Aussies that give out about ‘whingeing Poms’?
History will be the judge. In four years time all we will remember is that Ireland beat Autralia 15-6. The details about whining and sore losers will be forgotten!
unless we meet them in the final I suppose, Paul.
Then the vitriol out of them will be even worse… beaten by us twice in one tournament…
Oh Paul, wouldn’t that be sweet!!!
Another point to make is that there is a snowballs chance in hell that gaffney admitted to some Australian rugby hack that they faked injuries.
Interesting Horan fails to give even one example of when this happened. I’m struggling to think of any Irish players who got treatment for long periods, with the exception of Gordon Darcy who was eventually substituted and will miss the next game with a calf strain.

Sure even if this was a tactic used by Ireland, every other team in the world does this. Sore loser…..
he’s only a shackle dragging grandson of a convict, who cares what he thinks
Take it like a man for God’s sake
Tom Horan is an anagram of bitter!
Tim I meant! Fecking spell corrector!
Cop onto yourself Horan, we won fair and square! And with a name like yours I bet your ancestors are turning in their graves!!
There is probably a relative of his here doing the face palm right now.
It would be tight certainly.
Horn can make all the excuses he wants. But he knows that they were defeated by a strong rugby team backed by a proud nation.

How can you even compare the 2…..are u for real!!!? Apparently you have’nt a clue!
How sad are ya?
Sounds like Australian Sour Grapes
Nonsense .Ireland beat them fairly and squarely they Wallabies should haven had more (Fosters)bottle
Sour grapes I think!!!!!!
I would say Australia had some back handed tactics as well they just didn’t get to use them because they were out classed and out played by the Irish.
Excuses all over.
and here was me thinkin it was the Scrum and the Line-out that won the game….
Obviously not Nigel. Looked that way, but if you are a former international player like Mrs. Horan, you’d see the subtle signs of gamesmanship by the Irish. Who’d have thought the Australians were bad losers!! Surely not.

Ah the Whingie Wallabies.
speaking of o’Brien and ferris,,a back row god called rocky elson had no answer for either of them,…… thats how good they are!!!! bring on mcall
As I was taught by the good old Christian Brothers…(in sport especially) be magnanimous in defeat and humble in victory. Obviously, our TIm was never heard of this one…

Sour grapes. Get a life
