Hooters sound just as Harrington finds some form

Padraig Harrington had just begun to play some decent golf at the Travelers Championship when rain halted play.

PÁDRAIG HARRINGTON WAS left to curse the sodden conditions at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut on Thursday, with the first round stopped just as he was showing some form.

The three-times Major winner, starting on the back nine, bogeyed twice before the turn. A consistent start – he made par on his first five holes – was interrupted on the par-four 15th when he shanked his drive so far right that the ball landed in the tee box for another hole. He put his next in a greenside bunker but missed out on a nine-footer to save par.

More woe was to follow for the Dubliner two holes later when he bogeyed once again, but he turned things around with an assured 14-foot putt on the par-three fifth, his 14th hole of the day.

Harrington was standing on the fairway at the par-five sixth when the hooters sounded and he will have to complete his first round on Friday. He currently stands at one-over par.

The 39-year-old will have been disappointed to note that birdies were there for the taking, despite the damp.

Leader Michael Bradley managed seven of them and is on six-under with two holes still to play in his first round.
