THE TRIBUTE SONG to the Hillsborough disaster has been confirmed as the UK’s Christmas number one.

The Justice Collective, a group which includes the likes of Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Paloma Faith and Mel C, covered the Hollies hit ’He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’ to raise funds for the families of the 96 people who lost their lives at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.

After widespread support, it tops the British charts ahead of X Factor winner James Arthur this evening meaning it will go down in the record books alongside the likes of Band Aid and Shakin’ Stevens.

The song reached number four in the official Irish charts.
