LIVERPOOL MANAGER KENNY Dalglish has praised the work of MPs Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram after the House of Common passed a motion calling for the release of all documents relating to the Hillsborough disaster.
Dalglish, who was also manager of Liverpool at the time of the disaster, said the move was a step closer to justice for the families of those who died.
And speaking after the announcement was made, he told reporters:
‘It is a fantastic success for the families, it is a huge step forward for them, getting access to what other people have seen with the papers that are there.”
Dalglish also commended the two MPs who he believed were integral in getting the motion passed:
“Andy Burnham came up two years ago and said that he would try to push this forward and he has kept to his word. Steve Rotheram is the local MP who has pushed it forward.“So a lot of people have done brilliantly for the families. All they want is some closure on it.”
The manager said that the significant online response to the issue indicated that the matter was not just one that concerned Liverpool, but all of football.
“They put the e-poll online and within an hour and a half there were 140,000 signatures.“It tells you this isn’t just about Liverpool Football Club or the families that supported Liverpool, this is about football.”
The disaster took place on 15 April 1989, as a human crush caused the deaths of 96 people.
