Hibs eye up Fenlon for Easter Road hotseat

Pat Fenlon could walk away from Bohemians and the League of Ireland to take over at SPL side Hibernian.

BOHEMIANS MANAGER PAT FENLON has emerged as the front-runner to take over at SPL side Hibernian.

The Dubliner’s odds were slashed to as short as 1/6 in places last night after St Mirren’s Danny Lennon rubbished reports that he was set to be the new man at Easter Road.

Lennon’s apparent withdrawal from the race leaves Fenlon and Shamrock Rovers boss Michael O’Neill as the most obvious candidates to succeed Colin Calderwood, and it is the Bohs man who appears to have caught chairman Rod Petrie’s eye.

Although Hibs have yet to formally approach the Phibsboro club, it is understood that Fenlon has asked to meet with the board tonight to discuss his future.

This is not the first time that a Scottish suitor has come knocking on Fenlon’s door. In January 2010, a move to Dundee United seemed a certainty before it collapsed at the last minute over contractual difficulties.

Should Fenlon step into the Hibs hotseat, he will have his work cut out for him if he is to turn around disastrous start to the season. The Edinburgh outfit currently lie in ninth place with just three wins from their opening 14 games.

After a little more than a year in the job, Calderwood was sacked on 6 November following a 1-0 defeat at home to Dunfermline, the club’s seventh loss of the season.

Hibs have huge potential and have managed to stay relatively debt free over the last few years. It would be agreat move for Fenlon as all he would be expected to do is avoid relegation. Very likely. Then he would no doubt have some money to spend during the summer
