Here's what it's like to be 27, Irish and gamble €5 MILLION in one year

Irishman John O’Shea left his job as an accountant to take up full-time gambling. This is how he got on.

WHAT DO YOU do if you sit down to play online poker and make more in one night than you do in an entire year at your job at a major accountancy firm?

If you are John O’Shea from Templeogue in Dublin, you jack in the job and try this gambling lark full-time.

Since O’Shea made the decision to go pro five years ago, he has gotten to the point where he bets over €5m a year on every sport imaginable. Does he come out on top? Watch The Gambler on Setanta Ireland this coming Friday evening to find out.

The doc follows O’Shea during a particularly heady six months which see him win (and lose) over half a million euro, and travel from the Irish Poker Open to the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas via Monte Carlo. If the trailer is anything to go by, O’Shea’s not the only young Irishman trying his hand to have the odds work in his favour.

Look out for the scene where a roomful of guys in their 20s punt half a million euro between them on just one night’s sporting events. The Gambler is on Setanta Ireland (freeview), 10pm, Friday, 5 April.

Don’t try this at home, folks.
