Here's the 30 nominations for this year's Irish sports book award

From Ronnie Whelan’s account of life at Anfield to Nicolas Roche’s stories from the saddle, these are the runners and riders for the annual prize.

THE NOMINEES FOR this year’s WilliamHill.com Irish Sports Book of the Year have been announced today.

There are 30 contenders for this year’s award, the largest entry since the award was established six years ago.

“The standard of sports writing this year has again improved with some top class books in the running for the award and a range of stories from autobiographies to accounts of some of the most famous occasions in Irish sport,” said Tony Kenny, PR Manager for the bookmakers.

“This year’s is probably the most competitive list of contenders we have seen so there will certainly be a deserving winner come December.”

The shortlist will be announced in November with the winner of this year’s award being revealed in early December. The likes of George Hook, Matt Cooper, Eamon Dunphy and Sky Sports’ Paul Dempsey make up the judging panel.

Christy O’Connor’s The Club won last year. Which do you fancy this time around?
