Here we go again... next season's Airtricity League fixtures released

It’s a low-key start as champions begin title defence at Drogheda.

AIRTRICITY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Shamrock Rovers will begin the defence of their title with a trip to Drogheda United next season.

The FAI have this afternoon released the full fixture list for next year’s Premier Division campaign which kicks off on 2 March.

On the same night Derry City will welcome manager Stephen Kenny’s former side Bohemians to the Brandywell. Though the Dubliner may be in the Rovers’ post by then if talks go well this week.

Liam Buckley will have his first game as St Pat’s manager against Bray at Inchicore while last season’s First Division champions Cork City face UCD in Dublin.

The other promoted sides – Shels and Monaghan – have home ties, taking on Sligo Rovers and Dundalk respectively.

The league will take a mid-season break – from 5 -21 June –  to coincide with the national team’s games at the European Championships in Poland.

The final round of league matches is slated for Friday, 26 October.

“Due to the licensing process involved for prospective new clubs, the First Division fixtures will be published when the licensing process is complete on 12 February,” an FAI spokesperson added.
