Henrik Larsson tops the list of candidates to replace Neil Lennon at Celtic

David Moyes and Jackie McNamara are also in contention to take over at Celtic Park.

NEIL LENNON’S AGENT has announced his client is leaving Celtic Park after ending his four-year coaching spell with the Scottish club.

Speculation is already rife about the leading contenders to replace the Northern Irishman with some bookies suspending bets on the early favourite, Henrik Larsson. Here are the five coaches creating the biggest stir.

Signed from Feyenoord in 1997, the Swedish striker became a club legend at Celtic. He finished up with the Hoops 10 years ago and finished his playing career in his homeland after a short but successful stints with Barcelona and Manchester United. The 42-year-old is currently managing Falkenbergs FF in Sweden.

The former Everton and Manchester United manager may enjoy a change of scenery and a return to Scotland after a 2013/14 season to forget. The Scot build a reputation for passing football at Everton but found the Old Trafford hot seat too uncomfortable and led United to their worst league finish in 24 years.

Roy Keane

The former Irish captain played 10 games for Celtic in 2006 after he was released from his contract at Manchester United. Guided Sunderland to the Premier League in his first year in charge but the club struggled once promoted. Lasted a season and a half with Ipswich Town before he was sacked in early 2011. Made his return to coaching as Martin O’Neill’s assistant, with Ireland, last November.

Jackie McNamara

The Glasgow native played 255 games for Celtic over 10 seasons, finishing up in 2005. He retired in 2011 and took up a coaching role at then-club Partick Thistle. He took over at Dundee United last season and led them to a Scottish Cup final, which they lost to St Johnstone.

Malky Mackay

The 42-year-old from Bellshill [50km from Edinburgh] played five seasons with Celtic before moving to Norwich in 1998. He made five international appearances for Scotland and began his managerial career with Watford after taking over from Brendan Rodgers. Moved on to Cardiff City in 2011 and got them promoted last summer. He last four months with City before transfer and budgeting arguments with owner Vincent Tan saw him dismissed.

Mick McCarthy

The Ipswich Town boss played two seasons with Celtic in the late 1990s, winning a league and two Scottish Cup medals. Took over the Tractor Boys in November 2012 and after helping them avoid relegation in 2012/13, came close to the Championship playoffs last season.
