Here's what the new boys sang as their Ireland initiation songs this week

Jeff Hendrick needs to brush up on his vocal skills, by the sounds of things.

THE INITIATION SONG is a (fairly) sacred tradition for the Irish football squad. The rules are simple: if it’s your first senior call-up, you stand on a chair in the middle of a room and sing a few bars for your new international team-mates.

Remember Shane Duffy’s attempt at “(Build me up) Buttercup”? And David Meyler’s version of the Uncle Kracker smash-hit “Follow Me”?

This week it was the turn of Derby County trio Conor Sammon, Richard Keogh and Jeff Hendrick. Mercifully — for the lads, anyway — the videos haven’t surfaced on YouTube yet but in a blogpost written for 3, translator Manuela Spinelli had the inside scoop:

The Derby trio had to go through the initiation song!! Conor Sammon sang Wonderwall; Richard Keogh gave a rendition of Man who can’t be moved by The Script and Jeff Hendrick went for Michael Buble, Everything!
Rumours have it that Conor and Richard were fairly even, while Jeff… ‘spoke’ the song very well! Needs improvement J

We’re not really surprised by Keogh’s choice. “The Man who can’t be Moved” is a staple in his karaoke catalogue, as you’ll see from the 2:00 mark on here:
