Brazilian tops ten million followers on social networking site.

AHEAD OF TONIGHT’s crucial Champions League, Real Madrid midfielder Kaka became the first athlete to amass 10 million followers on Twitter.

While he remains well behind celebrities like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber — who each have more than 20 million followers on the social networking site — it’s not a bad haul for a player whose career at Madrid has fallen well short of expectations following his £56 million transfer in 2009.

The move followed a successful six-year stint at AC Milan in Italy.

He celebrated the news by thanking his followers:

The achievement comes ahead of Madrid’s crunch home tie with Bayern Munich this evening.

Los Merengues must overcome a 2-1 deficit in order to reach the Champions League final.
