KIERAN MCGEENEY EXPRESSED some disappointment following the heated exchanges which dominated Kildare’s league defeat to Monaghan yesterday.
However, the Kildare boss, does not expect any further action to be taken on the matter.
Referee, Joe McQuillan, traversed the pitch before second half began.
Yellow cards were doled out to Monaghan’s Dessie Mone and Dick Clerkin, and Kildare’s Padraig O’Neill. A straight red was given to Brian Flanagan.
Slow motion replays, showed the defender aim a swipe at Paul Finlay and miss. McGeeney appeared slightly dismayed by the way events unfolded, events which now overshadow the game:
“It is hard to know what is going on inside other people’s mind when those things are happening.” McGeeney told RTE Sport.
The former Armagh star added that he sees no reason why further punishment would be merited,
“There is a lot of testosterone flowing out there, things happen and people don’t want to seen that they are backing down. That’s about the size of it. ”Joe McQuillan dealt with four people at half-time so I take it that will be it, unless something else comes out of it.”
With a one man advantage, Monaghan ran out winners by 0-17 to 0-12 in front of home support in Clones. Manager, Eamonn McEnaney, pointed out that the scudffle was an isolated incident befroe half time which did not reflect an otherwise good-spirited game.
“I didn’t really see what went on. It was an awful lot of pushing and showing. It was out of character of the whole game.” Said McEnaney.
Neither side is in league action for the coming fortnight, as they will re-commence the campaign on 3 March.
